COLUMBUS, Ohio – In front of a crowd of 1,700 roaring fans at U-M Soccer Stadium, No. 3 Ohio State women's soccer put an exclamation point on an unprecedented regular season Friday night, delivering a commanding 3-1 victory over Michigan to march into the postseason on a historic high note.
The victory caps a dominant campaign for the Big Ten Champion Buckeyes, who finish the regular season 15-1-1 overall and 11-1-0 in conference play. With 33 points, Ohio State stands alone at the top of the Big Ten standings while extending its winning streak to nine matches—tying the program record for consecutive victories set in 2004 and 2012.
Jadin Bonham spearheaded the attack with a first-half brace, while senior midfielder Amanda Schlueter converted a second-half penalty kick for her 16th goal of the season. Elle Britt and Schlueter each added assists in the victory.
Ohio State took control early in the opening half. In the 12th minute, Bonham latched onto a pass from Britt and buried a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to give the Buckeyes a 1-0 advantage.
Bonham double-dipped in the 20th minute, striking a low ball into the bottom left corner off a feed from Schlueter to push the cushion to 2-0. Michigan responded just a minute later as Lilley Bosley scored to pull the host team within one at 2-1.
The Buckeyes stood tall through the remainder of the half, as goalkeeper Peighton Northrup came up big with key saves in the 40th and 45th minutes on attempts from Bosley and Brooklyn Marn to carry the 2-1 edge into the break.
Ohio State reasserted its authority in the second half. In the 61st minute, after a Michigan foul inside the box, Schlueter stepped up to the spot and calmly drilled her penalty kick into the bottom right corner. The strike brought her season total to 16 and her career mark to 43—leaving her just one goal behind for the all-time program lead.
The Buckeye backline locked down the final 30 minutes, stifling Michigan's attack in hostile territory to seal the 3-1 triumph. Northrup finished with three saves on the night to record her 15th victory of the season.
