COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Buckeyes delivered a massive first-round NCAA Tournament victory on Friday, knocking off No. 19 Georgia behind a dominant defensive performance and two clutch goals to secure a 2–0 victory in Athens.
Ohio State struck early in the 9th minute when Amanda Schlueter stole an errant pass at midfield and slipped a shot past the keeper on a breakaway, putting the Buckeyes on the board and setting the tone for a high-energy, physical first half.
OSU generated multiple corners and dangerous looks, while goalkeeper Molly Pritchard came up big with key stops, keeping Georgia off the scoreboard as the Buckeyes took a 1–0 lead into halftime.
The second half belonged to Ohio State. After weathering a flurry of Georgia corners, the Buckeyes built their attack and found a breakthrough again in the 69th minute.
Riley Lijewski finished a perfectly built sequence, heading in a centering pass off passes from Ava Bramblett and Micayla Decker to double the lead.
From there, OSU locked it down. The back line anchored by Mia McSweeney, Mirann Gacioch, Nette-Nina Hiltunen and Berkeley Mape held strong through Georgia’s late pushes and repeated set-piece opportunities. Pritchard remained steady, closing out the clean sheet as the Buckeyes controlled the final stretch and sealed the upset.
The Buckeyes advance to the second round for the 10th time and will face either Notre Dame or UIC next Thursday, Nov. 20.
