Teams meet Friday in Storrs, Saturday in Hartford
The Basics
- The No. 16/15 Ohio State men's hockey team hits the road for two games at No. 12 UConn this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Conn., and at 4 p.m. Saturday in PeoplesBank Arena in Hartford, Conn.
- The games will be streamed through ESPN+, with UConn Radio also carrying the action and live stats available on OhioStateBuckeyes.com.
- Ohio State opened its season with two wins at home last weekend over Northern Michigan (5-2, 3-1). UConn is 1-1, with a 4-2 loss and 5-1 win at Colorado College Oct. 3-4.Â
- Ohio State is 4-1-3 all-time against UConn, with a 1-1-2 ledger in Connecticut, with the first four games in Hartford.Â
- The squads last met in Hartford Oct. 14-15, 2022, a 0-0 overtime tie and 6-1 UConn win. The year prior, the Buckeyes posted a sweep with 4-3 overtime and 3-0 wins in Columbus Oct. 15-16, 2021.Â
- The teams first met on Buckeye ice Nov. 11-12, 2016, with a 7-4 Buckeye win and 3-3 overtime tie. The first series in Hartford was Nov. 10-11, 2017, with a 5-4 Ohio State win and 1-1 overtime deadlock.
- UConn is a member of Hockey East. Ohio State is 28-29-4 vs. current Hockey East schools all-time.
- Félix Caron was named the Big Ten Second Star of the Week for his five-point performance in the Buckeyes' season-opening sweep of Northern Michigan.
- In his first series as a Buckeye, Caron had a team-best three goals and five points. Friday, he had a career-high two goals and four points, matching his career best with two assists. Saturday, he sealed the Buckeye victory with an empty net goal. He had 10 shots and a +4 mark in the series. He is the first Buckeye with four points in the first game of the season since at least 1999-00.
- Ohio State has been No. 16 in the first three USCHO.com rankings of the season. The squad was No. 17 in the first USA Hockey poll, was tied for 16th in week two and is 15th this week.Â
- Davis Burnside entered the season tied for fourth in goals (37) and tied for eighth in points (80) among current Division I players while standing tied for second in games played (118). He had a goal and an assist in the first game of the season.
- Among current NCAA players entering the year, Adam Eisele was tied for third overall with nine gamewinning tallies and Broten Sabo was tied for third among defensemen in gamewinning goals with four.Â
- Goalie Kristoffer Eberly was named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Second Team.Â
- The Buckeyes returned 15 players and added 11 newcomers to the program this year. The new players include six freshmen and five transfers (one sophomore, three juniors and a senior/graduate).Â
- The 26-player roster includes four fourth-year players (three seniors and a graduate), 10 juniors (one in his first year of NCAA hockey), six sophomores and six freshmen.
- Six #ProBucks started the season on NHL rosters, including Mason Lohrei (Boston), Dakota Joshua (Toronto) and Jakub Dobes (Montreal). Three others – Damien Carfagna (Edmonton), Carson Meyer (Buffalo) and Max McCormick (Seattle) – are on the nonroster/injured list with their respective teams.Â
- The Buckeyes took two games from Northern Michigan in Columbus last week, with 5-2 and 3-1 wins.Â
- Game One: Max Montes put the Buckeyes up 1-0 5:33 into the game before two Felix Caron goals just 1:25 apart, with the first on a 5-on-3 power play and the second just as a power play expired, extended the lead to 3-0. The Wildcats tallied at 9:12 and 11:23 of the second to make it a one-goal game but Davis Burnside answered and Ohio State led 4-2 at 15:05. Caron forced a turnover early in the third and set up Riley Thompson for a goal 29 seconds into the period for a 5-2 Buckeye advantage. Shots were 42-15 in favor of the Buckeyes.Â
- Game Two: Buckeye Nathan Lewis opened the scoring at 15:48 of the first period and Adam Eisele followed with a goal 2:11 later for a 2-0 Buckeye lead. The only goal of the second came from the Wildcats at 8:05 for a 2-1 game. Ohio State controlled play in the third, outshooting NMU 16-9, and Caron sealed the win with an empty net goal in the final minute. Ohio State outshot Northern Michigan, 48-24.
- In game one, Felix Caron had his first collegiate two-goal and four-point game and his fourth career two-assist night. He had four two-point games as a freshman at RPI last season.
- Junior Broten Sabo posted two assists in the season opener, his fourth career two-assist game.Â
- Adam Eisele had the gamewinning goal last Saturday, the 10th of his NCAA career.
- Freshman Jake Karabela had an assist Friday in his collegiate debut.
- Rookies Landen Gunderson and Bryce Ingles also made their NCAA debuts in the series, as did junior Sam McGinley after two years at the University of New Brunswick.
- The Buckeyes outshot the Wildcats, 90-39, in the two games combined.
- Forward Ryan Gordon had five blocks in game one and a team-best six for the series.
- Goalie Kristoffer Eberly played all 120 minutes of the series vs. the Wildcats and had a 1.50 goals-against average and .923 save percentage.Â
- The Buckeyes were 6-for-6 on the penalty kill in the two games combined, going 1-for-7 with the man advantage.
- In all, 11 Ohio State skaters had at least a point in the series.
- The Buckeyes will host a four-game homestand, taking on Sacred Heart Oct. 24-25 and No. 4 Penn State Oct. 30-31.Â
- The Buckeyes and Pioneers will meet at 6:30 p.m. in game one and at 5 p.m. in game two. Both games vs. the Nittany Lions will be at 6:30 p.m.
- Three road series follow in November (at No. 18 Wisconsin, at No. 9/7 Michigan, at No. 15 Arizona State) before the first half ends with a home series against No. 12 Minnesota Dec. 4-5.Â

- Four games will be broadcast on BTN from Columbus – Oct. 30 vs. Penn State, Dec. 4-5 vs. Minnesota and Feb. 14 vs. Wisconsin. The Buckeyes' road game at Minnesota Feb. 7, along with both games in series at Penn State Feb. 20-21 and at Michigan State Feb. 27-28, are slated to be carried by BTN. Four games will be broadcast on BTN from Columbus – Oct. 30 vs. Penn State, Dec. 4-5 vs. Minnesota and Feb. 14 vs. Wisconsin.
