Quoting head coach Steve Rohlik
"It wasn't a great start against a team at home that plays hard and with a lot of much energy. We got our legs going midway through the game, but it's hard to recover against a really good hockey team. We have to be better tomorrow."
The Short Story
UConn controlled much of the first period and opened the scoring at 8:15, but a late goal from Max Montes sent the teams into the locker room tied at one. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 13 saves in the stanza. The Huskies scored the only two goals of the second for a 3-1 lead through 40 minutes. Buckeye Riley Thompson tallied early in a power play at 10:18 of the third for a one-goal game, but Ohio State was unable to even the score. Ohio State, which outshot UConn 34-29, was 1-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
Buckeye freshman Jake Karabela had a team-best two assists and points in the game, his first collegiate two-point night. Montes and Thompson both now have two goals this season and Karabela has three assists and points on the year.
