
Ohio State Orchestrates Second-Half Comeback to Remain Undefeated

The Buckeyes trailed by 13 points at halftime before beating the Wolverines by an 84-77 margin on the road.

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The No. 9/9 Ohio State women's basketball team (15-0, 4-0 B1G) used a second-half comeback to defeat No. 25/RV Michigan (10-5, 1-3 B1G) by an 84-77 margin in the teams' lone meeting of the regular season on Wednesday night.
Michigan was hot from long range in the first quarter and built a 26-18 lead after 10 minutes. The Wolverines extended their lead to 44-31 at halftime following an 18-13 second quarter. Ohio State battled back to tie the game in the third quarter, but Michigan scored the final two baskets of the quarter to take a 57-53 lead into the final 10 minutes of play. After trailing by five points with just under six minutes to play, Ohio State outscored Michigan 25-13 down the stretch to earn the win.
Jaloni Cambridge was the first Buckeye to reach double figures, doing so early in the third quarter and finishing with 29 points – her second-straight game with 20 or more points. McMahon (13), Chance Gray (16) and Ajae Petty (10) joined J. Cambridge in double figures.
How it Happened
Michigan opened scoring and the teams alternated baskets until an 8-2 Wolverines run gave them a 14-8 lead at the media timeout. Ohio State used an 8-3 run of its own to get back within two at 18-16 with just under three minutes to play in the first quarter. UM wrapped up the quarter with back-to-back three-pointers to lead 26-18 after 10 minutes.
The Wolverines scored first in the second quarter before back-to-back Buckeye baskets got OSU within six at 28-22. Michigan scored the next seven points to increase its lead to 35-22 at the media timeout. Madison Greene ended the first half with a three-pointer and the Buckeyes trailed by a 44-31 margin.
McMahon opened the second half with a jumper and reached double figures on a basket with 6:25 remaining in the quarter. Back-to-back OSU baskets cut the Buckeyes' deficit to 47-40 midway through the quarter. Ohio State continued that run to 7-0, capped by a Gray three-pointer, to trail by a 47-45 margin. The teams traded baskets and Gray hit two more triples to tie the game at 53 with 1:50 to play in the quarter. The Wolverines scored the final two baskets of the third quarter to take a 57-53 lead into the fourth.
The Wolverines got to the line to start the fourth quarter. The Buckeyes called timeout with 7:24 to play trailing by a 60-55 margin. Gray tied the game again at 64 with 5:16 to play as she had five unanswered points on the floor. Taylor Thierry gave Ohio State its first lead of the game, 68-66, with 4:26 remaining after stealing the ball and taking it in for a layup. Petty added to the lead before the Wolverines made a three-pointer to get within one at 70-69. The Buckeyes put together an 8-0 run to increase the lead to 83-73 with 20 seconds to play and won by an 84-77 margin.
