COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 15-ranked Ohio State women's tennis team dropped a heartbreaker to host and No. 18-ranked Tennessee, 4-3, Saturday in the ITA Kickoff Weekend site championship match in Knoxville, Tenn.

The Lady Vols opened the match with the doubles point. Ohio State won three of the first four completed singles matches in straight sets for a 3-2 lead. The team score came down to two three-set matches, with Tennessee ultimately winning in a third set tiebreaker to advance to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. Teah Chavez, Nao Nishino and Shelly Bereznyak were all singles winners for the Buckeyes.

The Buckeyes are 3-1 on the year, with Tennessee 4-0.

Tennessee 4, Ohio State 3 – How it Happened

The Lady Vols jumped out to a 1-0 lead, winning on courts one (6-2) and two (6-3) in doubles.
With victories on court two and five, Ohio State moved ahead, 2-1.
Teah Chavez topped No. 19-ranked Catherine Aulia, 6-2, 6-2, on court two, winning the final five games in the second set for the victory.
On court five, Nao Nishino also notched a ranked win, as she downed No. 54 Vanesa Suarez, 6-1, 6-3, claiming six of the last seven games
Tennessee's No. 10-ranked Elza Tomase won a matchup of Top 10 players, defeating No. 8 Luciana Perry, 6-3, 6-4, on court one, for a 2-all match.
Buckeye Shelly Bereznyak moved the Buckeyes ahead 3-2, topping Maeve Thornton on court three, 6-2, 6-3.
The match came down to courts four and six, which were both in the third set.
Against Tennessee's No. 106 Leyla Britez Risso, No. 84-ranked Sydni Ratliff won the first set, 6-3, but dropped the second by the same score. In the third, the Lady Vol pulled away with the final four games to take the set, 6-2, and tie the team score.
On court six, Tennessee's Conley Raidt prevailed in a third set tiebreaker vs. No. 46 Audrey Spencer for the team win. Spencer dropped the opening set but rallied with a 6-4 win in the second. In the third, the Buckeye came back from down 3-5 to even the match but the players traded breaks to send the set to a tiebreak. In the breaker, Raidt jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Spencer won the next five points, but the Lady Vol captured the next two to clinch the team win.
Chavez, Bereznyak and Nishino are all 3-0 in singles dual matches this year.
