COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 2 Ohio State women's hockey team started the weekend series against Minnesota State with a 5-2 win at the OSU Ice Rink Friday night.
Buckeye captain Jenna Buglioni became the program record holder in season and career game-winning goals with winning tally in the game. She has now recorded seven game-winning goals this season for Ohio State (19-5-3, 13-5-3 WCHA) and 17 for her career.
Short Story
Minnesota State (10-14-1, 4-14-1 WCHA) was first on the board with a goal 8:09 into the game, making it just the fourth time this season the Buckeyes were second to score in a game. The Mavericks' advantage was short lived as Kiara Zanon scored a minute and a half later to tie the game at 1-1.
Ohio State went on to score three unanswered goals to take the lead. Sloane Matthews scored her first of two goals of the game at 16:56 in the opening frame. Buglioni tallied her fourth power play goal of the season on the team's lone power play opportunity of the game 6:04 in the second period.
Minnesota State added a goal at 15:20 in the second period, but the Buckeyes did not allow another goal for the remainder of the game. Emma Peschel and Matthews added third period tallies at 7:53 and 15:33, respectively, to give the team the 5-2 win.
Ohio State goaltender Amanda Thiele made 13 saves in the game to improve to 12-4-2 on the year.

The Port Moody, B.C. native has 155 points for her Buckeye career. She is one point shy of tying Sophie Jaques ('23) for sixth-most points in program history.
- Five players had multi-point performances in Friday's win. Matthews led the team with two goals on the day. She entered the game with two goals this season.
