
Tim Welsh Classic Next Up for Swimming & Diving

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The No. 13 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team and No. 14 men's swimming and diving team head to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the annual Tim Welsh Classic this weekend. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday and at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Women's Meet Notes
- The Buckeyes (5-1) fell to No. 7 Michigan, 102.5-197.5 last weekend in Ann Arbor.
- The Buckeye relay team of Nyah Fundeburke, Maria Ramos, Paige Hall and Teresa Ivan opened the meet with a second-place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:39.18.
- Mila Nikanorov took second place in the 1000 free, finishing in 9:48.02.
- Sienna Angove placed second in the 200 free, touching the wall at 1:47.52.
- Funderburke took second in the 100 back with a time of 54.23.
- Ava DeAngelis and Ramos took second and third, respectively, in the 100 breast. DeAngelis finished in 1:02.33 and Ramos finished in 1:02.73.
- On the 3-meter board, Lena Hentschel (346.28), Paola Pineda Vazquez (340.05) and Mia Prusiecki (307.65) finished second, third and fourth, respectively. All three of their scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Delia Lloyd was the winner of the 200 back with a time of 1:57.75. Hall placed second with a time of 1:57.95.
- DeAngelis took second in the 200 breast, touching at 2:14.98.
- Pineda Vazquez won the 1-meter dive with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 327.38. Hentschel placed second with a score of 325.65, which is also an NCAA Zones qualifier. Prusiecki (290.40) and Michelle Mazzara (275.25) also recorded NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
Men's Meet Notes
- The Buckeye men (4-1) were defeated by No. 10 Michigan, 188-112, last weekend.
- The 200 medley relay team of Cornelius Jahn, Karl Helmuth, Matt Klinge and Daniel Baltes placed second with a total time of 1:27.25.
- In his first meet back after redshirting the fall, Charlie Clark earned a second-place finish in the 1000 free, touching the wall at 9:09.24.
- Tomas Navikonis earned the first victory of the day for the Buckeyes, winning the 200 free with a time of 1:35.72.
- Jahn was the second-place finisher in the 100 back, touching the wall at 48.50.
- Tristan Jankovics finished second in the 100 breast with a time of 54.10.
- Baltes (19.90), Klinge (20.00) and Mario McDonald (20.43) finished second, third and fourth in the 50 free, respectively.
- Navikonis placed second in the 100 free with a time of 43.88. Baltes finished third with a time of 44.58.
- On the 1-meter board, Dom Roberto (361.88), Kylie Flory (358.95) and Tyler Read (357.15) finished 2-3-4. Clayton Chaplin (342.90) placed sixth and Hamish Patel (323.03) placed seventh. All five scores are NCAA Zones qualifiers.
- Jankovics won the 200 breast, turning in a time of 1:57.87.
- Klinge finished second in the 100 fly with a time of 47.72.
- Frost swam a time of 4:26.34 in the 500 free to finish third.
- Jankovics' time of 1:45.91 in the 200 IM earned him a second-place finish.
- Chaplin placed second on the 3-meter board with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 380.05. Roberto (350.78), Read (347.78), Flory (343.65) and Patel (339.38) also turned in NCAA Zones qualifying scores.
- The Buckeyes closed out the meet with an exciting win in the 400 free relay, with the team of Navikonis, Baltes, Mario McDonald and Jahn finishing in 2:55.65.
- The Buckeyes head to Pitt for a dual meet on Saturday, Feb. 1 at 12:00 p.m.
