Ohio State now owns wins over a top-ranked team in each of the last three seasons. The Buckeyes beat No. 1 Penn State in 2023 and No. 1 UCLA in each of the last two years.

How it Happened
Set 1 (25-20)
The Buckeyes started with a 2-1 lead on a Cole Young kill. Ohio State was first to score consecutive points with a 4-0 run for a 7-3 lead. The Buckeyes used a kill by Kyle Teune and three attack errors by the Bruins for the lead. UCLA then called timeout trailing the Buckeyes by four early. A Daniel Henwood Rodriguez kill made it 8-5 after the break. Another Teune kill kept the lead at 10-8 Buckeyes. The Buckeyes maintained their advantage with each team alternating points until Ohio State used a 4-1 run to take a 17-13 lead. The Bruins called timeout, their final of the set, after a Stanislaw Chacinski ace. The Buckeyes were first to 20 with a kill by Young on an overpass for a 20-16 lead. A Teune ace made it a five-point lead (22-17). A UCLA attack error led to set point at 24-19. Shane Wetzel then got the set-winning kill for the 25-20 win. The Buckeyes hit .312 in the opener.
