Ohio State Falls Short at No. 10 Florida

The Buckeyes ended the weekend with a four-set loss to the Gators in Gainesville.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's volleyball team (3-2) fell to No. 10 Florida (5-1) in four sets (25-20, 20-25, 23-25, 21-25) to wrap up action at the Florida Invitational.

Ohio State used an extended 7-1 run midway through the first set to earn a 25-20 set win after trailing for much of the beginning of the set. Florida evened the match with a 25-20 win in the second set, scoring the final three points. The Gators led big early in the third set and the Buckeyes got within one, but ultimately Florida earned the 25-23 set win and the advantage in the match. The fourth set was tight with seven ties but the Gators ended the match with a 25-21 win.

Reese Wuebker reached a career-high in kills in the second set and ended the match with seven kills. Emily Londot was the first Buckeye to 10 kills, totaling 15 today. Olivia Hasbrook and Mia Tuman led the team in digs with nine apiece.

How it HappenedÂ
Florida opened scoring as the teams traded points to begin the match. Ohio State grabbed its first lead of the match at 8-7 after a 3-0 run but the Gators answered with the next three points to regain the lead at 10-8. Florida took a 15-13 advantage into the media timeout. The Buckeyes scored the next five of six points to take an 18-16 and prompt a Gators timeout. Florida took a second timeout as Ohio State led 23-19 following Reese Wuebker's fourth kill. Grace Egan's fourth kill gave the Buckeyes a 25-20 set win.

Ohio State scored first in the second set but a 3-0 run by Florida gave the Gators the advantage early. The Buckeyes trailed by as many as four points at 12-8 but responded with a 5-1 run to tie the set at 13 on an ace from Sydney Taylor. Florida regained the advantage heading into the media timeout and forced an OSU timeout as the Buckeyes trailed 20-16. Ohio State strung together three consecutive points to trim its deficit to 22-20 and force a Florida timeout. The Gators scored the final three points of the set to win 25-20 and even the match.

Rylee Rader opened the third match with fifth kill but a 5-0 Florida run gave the Gators an 8-3 advantage and forced a Buckeye timeout. OSU trailed by as many as eight points at 14-6 before responding with a pair of 3-0 runs to get within two at 16-14, forcing a Gators timeout. Back-to-back Florida points prompted a second OSU timeout and the Buckeyes were down by as many as five points late (23-18). A 4-0 Ohio State run trimmed the OSU deficit to just one point at 23-22 but Florida earned the 25-23 set win.
