
Dezenzo Gets the Call, Will Make MLB Debut for the Astros

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Former Ohio State baseball player Zach Dezenzo has been called up by the Houston Astros and is expected to make his MLB debut tonight against the Texas Rangers.
Dezenzo, the Astros' No. 4 prospect, was promoted to Triple-A on July 23. Through 11 games with the Sugar Land Space Cowboys, Dezenzo batted .391 with 18 hits, four home runs 13 RBIs and 14 runs scored. He had an OPS of 1.211.
Dezenzo has played 38 total games during the 2024 season and batted .306 with 45 hits, six home runs, 24 RBIs and 25 runs scored.
Dezenzo was drafted by the Astros in the 12th round (pick 373) of the 2022 MLB Draft and has made his mark in Minor League Baseball since then. On his career in the minors, he batted .297 with 180 hits, 28 home runs, 100 RBIs, 118 runs scored and 31 stolen bases.
Dezenzo is one of four Buckeyes currently active in the MLB, joining Dominic Canzone (Seattle Mariners), Ryan Feltner (Colorado Rockies) and Dillon Dingler (Detroit Tigers). Dezenzo is the third Buckeye to be called up this summer. Dingler was made his MLB Debut on July 29 and pitcher Jacob Bosiokovic was called up by the St. Louis Cardinals on June 30, but was assigned back to Triple-A Memphis a few days later.
