Was a three-time All-Ivy selection at Columbia
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Maya Walker's transition into Ohio State as a graduate transfer will be slightly different than most others.
That's because she'll have an inside source helping her along the way – her brother, Miles, who is in his second year as an offensive lineman on Ohio State's football team.
Maya fills an important need for the Buckeye field hockey team: she's highly experienced after four years at Columbia where she played in 49 games over her three-year career and started 46 times. A three-time All-Ivy League selection and all-region choice, Walker had 27 points in her career and scored eight goals.
A Greenwich, Conn. native, Walker was a three-sport athlete at Greenwich Academy, lettering in field hockey, track and field and crew. Her competitive gene was passed down from a family full of athletes. In addition to Miles, Maya's parents – Bobby and Becky – were both athletes as well. They didn't just play their respective sports at Williams College, however – they excelled at them. Both were All-Americans: Bobby in track and field and Becky in basketball. Bobby also played football while Becky competed in tennis as well.
While she was at Columbia, Walker was the president of the Lions' Student-Athlete Advisory Council and also volunteered at a local elementary school. She will enroll in Ohio State's sports management master's degree program with hopes of returning to New York City when she's finished with school to pursue a career in consulting, sports analytics or media.
