COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State swimming and diving alumna Kristen Romano has qualified to compete on Team Puerto Rico at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Romano will represent Puerto Rico in the 200 IM. She turned in a time of 2:13.09 at the Atlanta Classic last month, earning a gold medal in the event, which ultimately earned her a spot on the team when the roster was revealed this week.
Romano graduated from Ohio State in 2022. This will be her first career Olympic Games. She is the seventh athlete with Ohio State swimming and diving ties to punch her ticket to the Olympics; current Buckeyes Lena Hentschel (Germany), Tomas Navikonis (Lithuania), Tristan Jankovics (Canada) and Alex Axon (Canada), former swimmer Hunter Armstrong (USA) and incoming Buckeye Emma Finlin (Canada) have already qualified.
Swimming at the 2024 Olympic Games will be held at the Paris La Defense Arena, located in the city of Nanterre. Indoor swimming kicks off July 27 and runs through August 4; 35 medal events will be competed.
