
Perry Named to 2024 USTA Collegiate Summer Team

B1G Freshman of the Year was an All-American, NCAA qualifier
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Luciana Perry, who just wrapped up her first year as a member of the Ohio State women's tennis team, has been named to the 2024 USTA Collegiate Summer Team. She is one of six women and six men who were selected for the training program, which is designed to help America's premier college players assimilate to professional tennis in a team-oriented environment via USTA Player Development:.Â
Perry is the only freshman and only underclassman among the women. She is joined by UNC's Fiona Crawley, Connie Ma of Stanford, Michigan's Kari Miller, Alexa Noel of Miami and Mary Stoiana from Texas A&M on the women's side. Each of the players was selected based on a number of criteria, including rankings, individual collegiate tournament results or Intercollegiate Tennis Association honors. Players on the team are eligible to receive a grant for travel to USTA Pro Circuit events and coaching support over the summer.
A native of Export, Pa., Perry was voted the Big Ten Freshman of the Year and to the All-Big Ten team and earned a spot on the Big Ten All-Tournament Team. She was an NCAA qualifier in singles and doubles (with two partners). Perry was the only freshman to reach the Round of 16 in the NCAA Singles Championship and her two wins secured All-America honors.Â
In the ITA rankings, Perry ended the year ranked 47th in singles and 25th (with Irina Cantos Siemers) and 27th (with Sydni Ratliff) in doubles.
She was 27-12 overall in singles, with a 14-5 dual mark, and 16 of her dual matches were on courts one and two. In doubles, Perry was 28-12, tying the Ohio State record for doubles wins by a freshman.  Â
She helped the Buckeyes to a 20-8 ledger, with a 10-1 Big Ten record. The squad was the No. 12 seed in the NCAA Tournament and reached the final of the Big Ten Tournament, ending the year ranked 15th.
