
Buckeyes Fall in Big Ten Tournament to Michigan

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State men's lacrosse team fell, 15-9, to No. 19 Michigan Saturday afternoon in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals at U-M Lacrosse Stadium.
The first period was a back-and-forth battle between the two rivals. The Buckeyes (6-9, 1-4 B1G) struck first with a goal from Kurt Bruun at 10:37, but the Wolverines (8-6, 2-3 B1G) tied the game at 9:18. Ohio State's Jack McKenna responded with two goals, his first at 7:31 and second at 2:35, to put the Buckeyes up, 3-1, and Michigan answered with its own two-goal run.
With 14 seconds to play in the first quarter, Ohio State senior defender Marcus Hudgins tallied his first career goal to give his team the 4-3 lead after 15 minutes of play in Ann Arbor, Mich.
Michigan took the lead, which it did not relinquish for the remainder of the game, with three unanswered goals to start the second period. Bruun recorded his second multi-goal game of the season with the Buckeyes' lone goal of the quarter. The Wolverines took a 7-5 advantage into the half.
Freshman Jack Oldman, who finished .500 at the faceoff dot on Saturday, won six of seven faceoffs in the third quarter as the Buckeyes fought to hold off the Wolverines. Bruun and Shean were the goal scorers for Ohio State in the quarter, with Bruun completing his first hat trick of his Buckeye career with a man-up goal at 10:48 and Shean Ed Shean extending his goal streak to four games with a tally at 3:28. Freshman goalie Caleb Fyock made six saves in the quarter.
Alex Marinier scored at 10:43 and Shean recorded his third multi-goal goal of the season with a goal at 6:33, but Michigan came away with the 15-9 lead.
Ohio State finished 2-for-3 on the extra-man while holding Michigan scoreless on three opportunities. The Buckeyes, who lead the conference in ground balls per game, won the ground ball battle, 29-27. Oldman led the way with 11. Connor Cmiel led the team with two caused turnovers on the day while Kyle Foster, Jacob Snyder, Cullen Brown and Marcus Hudgins each recorded one.
