Hit .500 last week as Ohio State went 6-0 with sweeps of Penn State and Maryland
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State's Kami Kortokrax has been selected as the Big Ten's Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday.
Kortokrax, a junior from Westerville, earned the award after she hit .500 in six games last week with two home runs, four doubles and five RBI. In yesterday's 3-2 win over Maryland – which completed a weekend sweep for the Buckeyes – she hit a two-run home run in the top of the first inning. That hit came less than 24 hours after she was forced to leave Saturday's game with an injury that required a trip to the emergency room and several stitches after taking a foul ball on the bridge of her nose.
In the second game of a doubleheader sweep versus Penn State, Kortokrax had a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning to help Ohio State earn a 2-1 win. On the day, she finished 5-for-7 with three doubles, two RBI and a 1.143 slugging percentage.
Over Ohio State's six-game week – which were all victories for the Buckeyes – Kortokrax had eight hits in 16 at-bats, finished with a .529 on-base percentage and 1.125 slugging percentage. She had multiple hits and drove in at least one run in four of the five full games that she played in.
Kortokrax's home run on Sunday was her team-leading 10th of the season. She's started all 44 games for the Buckeyes this season and is batting .326 with 36 RBI, 27 runs scored and a .637 slugging percentage, which ranked 13th in the Big Ten. She and the rest of her Buckeye teammates have won seven consecutive games and will play their final home series of the 2024 regular season this weekend when they host Illinois Friday-Sunday.
