
Three Under-Par Rounds Has Buckeyes 2nd at Hayt Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Three Buckeyes are in the Top 10 and Ohio State is second after a strong start on day one of the Hayt Invitational at Sawgrass Country Club in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.
Neal Shipley led the Buckeyes with a 3-under 69 and he is tied for the individual lead. He was 2-over on his round through six holes but played the final 12 holes in 5-under par. Wallin got off to a hot start as he birdied four of his first five holes. He cooled a bit, but finished with a birdie at the last to card a 2-under 70. Moldovan made back-to-back birdies at Nos. 8 and 9 to turn in 34 and would wind up posting a 1-under 71 for his 14th round at par or better this year.
Shipley, Wallin and Moldovan were three of just 12 players to break par on the day. The scoring average for round one was 75.90.
Behind those three rounds, the Buckeyes posted a 2-under 286 and are just four shots behind Alabama for the top spot. North Carolina, the top-ranked team in the country, is third at 1-over par.
Jackson Chandler made three birdies in his round of 4-over 76 while Topher Reed and Jacob Tarkany both opened with rounds of 8-over 80.
The Buckeyes are paired with Alabama and North Carolina for the second round and will start at 9:40 a.m. off the first tee.
