COLUMBUS, Ohio – In a game that saw five ties and three lead changes, the No. 20 Ohio State men's lacrosse team fell 15-11 to No. 10 Cornell Saturday afternoon in Ithaca, N.Y. The Buckeyes are now 4-1 on the year and return to Columbus 1-2 on the road this season.

The Short Story
Ohio State had three two-goal leads in the first half, but the game was even 7-7 at the half. Blake Eiland and Alex Marinier each scored twice in the first half and goaltender Caleb Fyock made six saves against the Big Red.

Cornell went on to outscore the Buckeyes 8-4 in the second half to take the win. Despite career-high performances from Marinier and Eiland, Ohio State was not able to catch the Big Red in the end. Â

Marinier and Eiland finished with three and two goals, respectively. Ben Mayer also tallied his fourth multi-goal game of the season while Justin Sherrer scored his first of the year for the Buckeyes.

Ohio State won the battle at the faceoff X with Tommy Burke finishing 13-of-20 and Jack Oldman going 5-of-10. Fyock made 11 saves on the day.

How the Goals Were Scored
- After Cornell scored first at 10:31, the Buckeyes responded with two goals for their first lead of the game. Alex Marinier took a shot through two Big Red defenders to tie the game at 8:24 and Jack McKenna followed with a goal at 7:08.
- Cornell's CJ Kirst scored at 5:10 for the second tie of the day, but Justin Sherrer's first of the season put the Buckeyes back in the lead at 4:22.
- Blake Eiland added another Buckeye goal at 3:41 in the opening quarter for the team's first two-goal lead of the game.
- Cornell closed the first quarter with a goal from Andrew Dalton in the final minute to put the game at 4-3.Â
- Gannon Matthews was the first to score in the second quarter, restoring the Buckeyes' two-goal lead at 13:41.
- The Buckeyes and Big Red exchanged two-goal spurts in the second quarter. Cornell had two two-goal runs to start and end the quarter while Ohio State's back-to-back goals came at 8:31 and 3:41.
- With the game tied 7-7 at the half, Cornell took back the lead off a goal from Kirst at 12:27 but it was soon neutralized by an Ed Shean goal at 11:08.
- The Big Red took command of the lead in the third quarter, scoring three goals in the next eight minutes. Michael Long scored at 8:01 and 6:13 and Willem Firth at 3:34 to put Cornell up 11-8.
- Ben Mayer tallied his first goal of the day at 3:04 to end the Big Red scoring run and put Ohio State within two, but Kirst snuck in a goal with six seconds to play in the third to keep Cornell ahead 12-9 with one quarter to play.
- Ohio State added two goals in the final 15 minutes with Mayer scoring first in the quarter at 14:16 and Marinier completing his hat trick at 5:43. Cornell scored three to take the 15-11 win. Â
