Buckeyes Place Second at Big Ten Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 8 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team finished second at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, winning seven events and collecting 16 medals over four days of competition at the Morgan J. Burke Aquatic Center at Purdue.
The Buckeyes, who were in pursuit of a fifth straight conference title, totaled 1,358.5 points, finishing just half a point behind first-place Indiana.
Amy Fulmer claimed her second straight 100 free title, winning the event with an NCAA B standard time of 47.48. It is one of the top-10 fastest times in the nation this season. Katherine Zenick finished fifth in the A final with a time of 47.92 and Teresa Ivan placed seventh, turning in a time of 48.35. Both times are NCAA B cuts.
Nyah Funderburke won the C final of the 100 free with an NCAA B standard time of 49.06 and Catherine Russo came in third, touching the wall at 49.28, which is also an NCAA B standard time.

Krista Marlin won her second bronze medal of the Big Ten Championships on Saturday, placing third in the A final of the 200 back with an NCAA B cut time of 1:54.31. Morgan Kraus finished sixth in the A final with a time of 1:55.65. Tristan Harrison finished seventh in the B final of the 200 back, touching the wall at 1:56.90. Both Kraus and Harrison's times are NCAA B cuts.
Josephine Panitz won her third individual medal on Saturday, winning silver in the 200 breast with an NCAA B standard time of 2:08.59. Reese Dehen (2:10.80) finished fourth and Hannah Bach (2:13.97) finished eighth in the A final. Dehen's time is an NCAA B standard.
Kyra Sommerstad led the way for the Buckeyes in the 200 fly A final, finishing in an NCAA B cut time of 1:56.39 to place fourth. Jessica Eden's NCAA B cut time of 1:58.48 earned her a second-place finish. Paige Hall placed fifth in the B final with a time of 1:59.61.
Ciara McGing and Janie Boyle competed in the A final of the platform dive. McGing finished fifth with an aggregate score of 299.00 and Boyle placed eighth with a score of 279.60. Both are NCAA Zones qualifying scores. In the consolation final, Lena Hentschel placed third with an NCAA Zones qualifying score of 240.90.
The Buckeyes closed out the night winning bronze in the 400 free relay. The team of Zenick, Ivan, Fulmer and Harrison swam the relay in an NCAA automatic qualifying time of 3:12.70.
Eight Buckeyes received All-Big Ten honors. Bach, Fulmer, Funderburke, Hentschel, Ivan, Kraus and Zenick all collected First Team All-Big Ten honors. Panitz was named to the All-Big Ten Second Team.
The Buckeyes will host their Last Chance Meet at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion on Sunday, March 3. Divers will compete at the NCAA Zone Championships from March 13-16 and the NCAA Championships will take place March 20-23 in Athens, Ga.
