Buckeyes In a Nutshell
- Ohio State enters its second straight road weekend with a win at Air Force under its belt. The Buckeyes took down the Falcons, 12-4, in their first road test of the season last weekend.
- Freshman goalie Caleb Fyock made nine saves in the win over Air Force, and added eight in the win over Bellarmine, to earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. Fyock leads the conference with a .677 save percentage and a 5.17 goals against average in three games played on the year. His GAA also ranks second nationally.
- Ohio State is ranked No. 20 in this week's USILA Coaches Poll. The Buckeyes will play four top-10 teams in the next four weekends.Â
- Gannon Matthews, Ben Mayer and Ed Shean have hit the 10-point mark for the Buckeyes. Matthews leads the way with 12 points and 11 goals. Shean has recorded a team-high four assists on the year.
- Tommy Burke leads the Big Ten at the faceoff X with a .639 win percentage. The Buckeyes are top of the league in faceoff win percentage (.631) and are ninth nationally.
- Ohio State's veteran defensive unit has started the season strong, allowing just 6.00 goals per game, which ranks third nationally. The Buckeyes are one of eight teams in the country who have not allowed a goal man-down.
- Marcus Hudgins has caused a team-high nine turnovers on the season, good for the second-best caused turnovers per game average in the Big Ten (2.25).
- Sophomore Cullen Brown leads non-faceoff players with 16 groundballs on the year. He is also second on the team with six caused turnovers.
- Ohio State plays its second of three consecutive road games on Sunday. The team is 1-0 on the road this season. After the trip to Virginia, the Buckeyes will play No. 6 Cornell in New York.
- The Buckeyes are 4-0 to start the year for the fifth time in Coach Myers' tenure at Ohio State.
- Ohio State makes its first trip to Charlottesville since 2013 this weekend.
- The last time the two teams met in Virginia, the Buckeyes earned a 16-10 win.
- The Cavaliers lead the all-time series, 7-1.
- In the last meeting between the two teams in 2023, Virginia won the neutral site matchup, 17-6.
