Mosley’s Program Record Highlights First Day of Big Ten Indoor Championships

The Buckeyes competed in the first of two days at the SPIRE Institute on Friday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track & field team began competition at the 2024 Big Ten Indoor Championships on Friday at SPIRE Institute. The Buckeye men sit at 10th with 8.33 points, while the women are currently 11th with seven points.
Aniya Mosley broke the program record in the 800m (2:04.29) with the third-fastest time in the field to advance to tomorrow's final.
FINALS
- 5000m: Daniella Santos finished fourth (16:14.07) and Andrea Kuhn finished seventh (16:20.14) to earn the Buckeye women's first seven points of the meet. Sean Carney led the Buckeye men (14:25.44).
- Long jump: DJ Fillmore came in third on the men's side with a personal-best mark of 7.69m / 25'2.75". Zamesha Myle's best mark of 5.73m / 18'9.75" led the Ohio State women.
- Weight throw: Tanner Watson's personal-best throw (20.40m / 66'11.25") was good for seventh among the men. Lacey Stringer was the lone Buckeye woman in the event (17.50m / 57'5").
- Pole vault: Daniel Edwards tied for eighth to get the Buckeye men on the scoreboard, clearing a personal-best 5.03m / 16'6". Morgan Fijalkowski led the Buckeye women by clearing 3.90m / 12'9.5" on her second attempt.
- Distance medley relay: The Buckeye women's team (Akemi Von Scherr, Gia Napoleon, Carina Napoleon and Amelia Figler) finished ninth (11:28.05).
PRELIMS
- 400m: Bryannia Murphy ran a personal-best 52.69 to win her heat and qualify for the finals with the third-fastest overall time. She now ranks third in program history in the event. On the men's side, Mason Louis had the fastest time of the day (46.17) to tie for fourth in program history. Antonio Hanson (46.76) and Noah Carmichael (47.07) also qualified for the finals by finishing third and sixth overall.
- 60m: Leah Bertrand (7.33) and Columba Effiong (7.33) qualified for the finals, finishing first and second in their heat and third and fourth overall. The Buckeye men also had two qualify for the finals with Nazzio John winning his heat and third overall (6.66) and Marcus Brown eighth (6.75).
- 60m hurdles: The Buckeye women had three qualify for the finals as Janela Spencer (8.19), Marcia Sey (8.23) and Olivia Powell (8.23) finished fourth through sixth overall, respectively. Braxton Brann finished eighth on the men's side (7.90) to move onto the finals.
- 200m: Three Buckeyes qualified for their second finals of the championship during the 200m prelims. Brann ran the fastest men's qualifying time (20.70) to rank third in program history. John was sixth (21.12) as the Buckeye men got two through to the finals. Bertrand finished eighth overall (23.98) on the women's side.
- 600m: Alex Kenish qualified for the finals with the third-fastest time (1:16.74) in the men's heats. Figler led the Buckeye women with a time of 1:35.26.
- 800m: Cooper Citro finished in 1:53.79 to represent the Buckeye men.
- Mile: G. Napoleon was the Buckeyes' lone entry, finishing in 4:50.79.

The Buckeyes wrap up the Big Ten Indoor Championships on Saturday with action beginning at 11 a.m. with the heptathlon's 60m hurdles.
