
Buckeyes Set for Five Games This Weekend at The Spring Games

Ohio State travels to Leesburg, Fla. for the third time in the last four years
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Another week and another trip south for the Ohio State softball team. This time, its headed to Leesburg, Fla. to participate in The Spring Games Friday-Sunday at the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex. The Buckeyes are slated to play five games – two on Friday, two on Saturday and the weekend finale on Sunday.

Buckeyes in a Nutshell
- Ohio State began its 2024 season last weekend at the Felsberg Invitational and went 4-1 with four consecutive victories.
- The Buckeyes' offense got off to a hot start, scoring 35 runs over the final four games of the weekend and registering a .406 team batting average.
- Hannah Church, a sophomore, hit .600 in the four games that she played with two doubles, a home run and eight RBI.
- Not to be outdone, freshman Jasmyn Burns made the first weekend of her college career one to remember. She batted .412 and had a team-best three home runs and nine RBI. For her efforts, she was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Monday.
- Six different players who started at least four games finished the week with a .400 or better average.
- Nine different players drove in runs and six had an extra base hit.
- In the circle, senior Allison Smith went 3-0 with a 0.81 earned run average and 20 strikeouts in 17.1 innings. For her career, Smith now has 40 wins.
- Her classmate, Emily Ruck, tossed her third career no-hitter on Saturday night in a 9-0 six-inning victory over Stony Brook. Ruck pitched 10.1 innings on the weekend and allowed just three earned runs.
History at The Spring Games
- Ohio State is participating in The Spring Games for the second time in the last three years.
- In 2022, the Buckeyes went 4-1 at the event with wins over Butler, South Alabama, Stetson and North Carolina.
- This year's trip to the Sleepy Hollow Sports Complex will be Ohio State's fourth in the last four years. During the 2021 season, it played their twice as part of the Big Ten-only schedule that season.
This and That
- Fifth-year senior Sam Hackenbracht went 3-for-3 with two doubles in a win over Stony Brook and overall hit .400 for the weekend with a home run on Sunday in the final game. Her homer on Sunday was the 39th of her career, which places her one away from fifth place on the program's all-time list.
- Another fifth-year senior, Tegan Cortelletti, started the final four games of the weekend and hit .333 with four RBI, a double and a triple.
- Junior Kaitlyn Farley collected seven hits in 17 at-bats (.412) and Melina Wilkison was also part of the group with a batting average at .400 or higher.
- Wilkson also walked four times and her .526 on-base percentage was the best on the team.
- Twenty four of the 37 runs that Ohio State batters drove in last weekend came with two outs (65 percent).
- As a team, Ohio State hit .434 with runners in scoring position and .460 with two outs.
- Conversely, Ohio State pitchers held opponents to a .147 average with two outs and gave up just four extra base hits, including no home runs.
