COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State will look to continue a hot start to the spring season as it will head to Puerto Rico this week for the Puerto Rico Classic. The 54-hole event is being played at the Grand Reserve CC, site of the PGA Tour's Puerto Rico Open. The tournament runs Sunday through Tuesday.
- Ohio State’s lineup this week will be Maxwell Moldovan, Neal Shipley, Adam Wallin, Jack Vojtko and Jackson Chandler. Patrick Schmucking will play as an individual.
- The Buckeyes opened the spring by winning the Southwestern Invitational two weeks ago in California. Neal Shipley birdied six of his final eight holes to win the individual title by one shot and also give the Buckeyes a one-shot victory. The individual win was the first of Shipley’s career.
- The Buckeyes played three fall events, finishing fourth of 15 at the Mirabel Maui Jim Intercollegiate, runner-up at the Hamptons Invitational and then sixth of 15 at the Cal Poly Invitational.
- Ohio State is currently ranked No. 25 in the latest Scoreboard rankings powered by Clippd.
- Maxwell Moldovan tied his career-low with a second round 65 at the Southwestern Invitational and would finish 22nd at 1-under par. That was his 23rd collegiate event in which he finished under-par. That includes all four events this season.
- Shipley has also finished under-par in all four events this season, including a pair of career-low 12-under par finishes. His final round 65 at the Southwestern Invitational included eight birdies. He leads the team with a 69.00 scoring average.
- Moldovan and Shipley were each named to the 40 player Ben Hogan Watch List earlier this week.
- Adam Wallin posted a pair of even-par rounds of 71 to finish the Southwestern Invitational at 3-over par and tied for 32nd. He has had 11 of his 12 rounds count towards the team score, which is the highest on the team.
- Freshman Jack Vojtko was impressive in his collegiate debut at the Southwestern Invitational. He posted three rounds at par or better (71-70-70) and finished 17th at 2-under par. He made a total of nine birdies and three eagles over the 54 holes. The three eagles are already one-off the team lead of four.
- Jackson Chandler played as an individual at the Southwestern Invitational and finished tied for 38th at 4-over par. He closed strong with four birdies in a final round of even-par 71. That was his 41st career round at par or better.
- Eight of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in the Top 30 of the latest Scoreboard rankings, including five in the Top-15.
- The weather forecast could not be better, with temperatures in the low-80s and very little chance of rain. No one in Ohio is jealous.
