
Shipley’s Bogey-Free 68 Leads Buckeyes on Day 1 of PR Classic

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State’s Neal Shipley fired a bogey-free 4-under 68 on Sunday to lead the Buckeyes on day one of the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico.
As a team, the Buckeyes carded an 8-under 280 and are in seventh place in the 15-team field. North Florida leads after the first round at 17-under par.
Shipley had two birdies on each nine to post matching 34s for his eighth round in the 60s this season. He enters Monday in a tie for 12th.
Maxwell Moldovan was a shot behind Shipley as he carded an opening round 69. This was also his eighth round this season in the 60s and he’ll start the second round in a tie for 17th.
Adam Wallin made three birdies and two bogeys in his round of 1-under 71. That ties Shipley for the most rounds at par or better this season with 11.
Freshman Jack Vojtko and senior Jackson Chandler each opened with rounds of even-par 72. Both players were 4-over par on the round before making four birdies and no bogeys coming home. Patrick Schmucking, who is playing as an individual, started with a 4-over 76.
The Buckeyes are paired with fellow Big Ten counterparts Purdue and Wisconsin for Tuesday’s second round. The teams will start on holes 7-9 in the 7:30 a.m. ET shotgun start.
