COLUMBUS, Ohio – After two scoreless halves, No. 10 Ohio State and No. 4 USC went into overtime in the Big Ten Quarterfinals in Minneapolis on Monday. The Trojans netted the game-winner just a minute and a half into the extra session to end the Buckeyes’ run.
How it Happened
The first 45 minutes were scoreless. Ohio State’s Jacinda Bonham had a great opportunity early in the first half as her right-footed shot from the top of the box hit the crossbar. USC had an opportunity of its own late in the first half as two Trojan crosses in front of the goal both went empty.
The second half was similar to the first. Both teams battled, going up and down the field, but neither came away with a goal. Molly Pritchard covered the goal well, keeping the Trojans scoreless.
The game headed into overtime, where two 10-minute halves were to be played, or a golden goal won the match. After just a minute and a half into the first overtime, USC found the back of the net on a deflected ball to win the match.
