ATHENS, Ohio – The No. 12/11 Ohio State women's basketball team (4-0) beat Ohio (1-3) by a 106-42 margin on Wednesday night on the road.
Ohio State scored the first 17 points of the game and held Ohio scoreless for more than five minutes to start the game. The Buckeyes held a 27-12 lead after 10 minutes and extended the lead to 59-19 at halftime following a 32-7 second quarter. Ohio State had the 31-19 scoring advantage in the third quarter to build the lead to 90-38. The Buckeyes closed the game with a 16-4 fourth quarter to win by a 106-42 margin.
Jaloni Cambridge reached double figures in just over five minutes into the game and finished with 19 points. Taylor Thierry (13), Ajae Petty (13), Chance Gray (18), Elsa Lemmilä (career-high 21) and Ava Watson (career-high 10) joined J. Cambridge in double figures. Thierry added a season-high 10 rebounds for her fifth career double-double. Lemmilä added a career-high 14 rebounds for the first double-double of her career.
How it Happened
Thierry opened scoring with a three-pointer and the Buckeyes jumped out to a 9-0 lead less than two minutes into the game to force a Bobcat timeout. Ohio State scored the first 17 points of the game and kept Ohio scoreless for more than five minutes. The Buckeyes capitalized on back-to-back three-pointers from Madison Greene and Thierry to lead 27-9 with 1:13 remaining in the quarter and led by a 27-12 margin after 10 minutes.
J. Cambridge hit a triple on the first possession of the second quarter and a 6-0 Buckeyes lead had OSU in front 36-14 with eight minutes to play before halftime. Ohio State used a 13-0 run to increase its lead to 43-14 with 6:10 remaining in the quarter. The Buckeyes scored the final 11 points of the first half to take a 59-19 lead into the locker room.
Gray opened the second half with a three-pointer. Ohio State didn't score more than four consecutive points and Ohio didn't score more than one unanswered basket during the quarter as the Buckeyes outscored the Bobcats by a 31-19 margin to increase the lead to 90-38 after 30 minutes.
Ohio had the first three points of the fourth quarter before Watson scored the next eight points on the floor to increase the Buckeyes' lead to 98-41 midway through the quarter. The Buckeyes didn't allow a point in the final 3:54 to win by a 106-42 margin.
