Fontaine and Thompson lead Ohio State with two goals and three points each
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind two goals each from Gunnarwolfe Fontaine and Riley Thompson, the No. 14 Ohio State men's hockey team skated to a 5-2 win at Lindenwood Friday evening at Centene Community Ice Center in Maryland Heights, Mo.

The Buckeyes improve to 8-2-1 on the year. Game two vs. the Lions (2-8-1) is slated for 3:10 p.m. ET Saturday. The game will be streamed through LindenwoodLions.com and live stats will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com.

The Short Story
After a scoreless first period, the Lions opened the scoring in the second. Ohio State tallied four times before the period was over, with two goals from Gunnarwolfe Fontaine, a Riley Thompson power play goal and Noah Powell's first collegiate tally. Lindenwood converted on the power play in the third for a 4-2 game, but Thompson answered with his second of the night for a 5-2 Buckeye advantage.

Fontaine and Thompson each added an assist for a three-point game, while Powell had a goal and an assist for two points and Aiden-Hansen Bukata had two assists and points. Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 23 saves in the win.

How it Happened
- No goals were scored in the first period, with Ohio State outshooting the Lions 11-4.
- Lindenwood opened the scoring on a Jake Southgate goal at 4:12 of the second.
- Ohio State took control with four goals before the end of the period.
- Gunnarwolfe Fontaine tallied twice in less than two minutes to tie the game and put the Buckeyes in the lead. His first came at 6:21 on the rush from the left wing, assisted by Noah Powell and Ryan Gordon. The second goal, at 8:15, finished a tic-tac-toe passing play with Riley Thompson and Davis Burnside.
- A Riley Thompson power play goal from in front at 15:55 gave Ohio State a 3-1 lead. Fontaine and Aiden Hansen-Bukata set up the PPG.
- Freshman Noah Powell weaved through the defense and scored his first collegiate goal at 16:35, assisted by Caden Brown and Theo Wallberg
- Ohio State had the shot advantage, 11-8, in the second.
- A Lindenwood power play goal from David Gagnon drew the Lions within two at 5:18 of the third but Thompson answered at 9:54, set up by a pass from Hansen-Bukata, to regain the three-goal advantage.
- Buckeye goalie Kristoffer Eberly had 12 saves in the third, with the Lions outshooting the Buckeyes, 13-6, in the stanza. For the game, Ohio State had the lead in shots, 28-25.
- Eberly ended the game with 23 saves in all 60 minutes. Lindenwood's Owen Bartoszkiewicz had 23 stops in 59:34.
- Chris Romaine had three of the Buckeyes' 12 shot blocks and Nathan McBrayer and Max Montes each blocked two.
- Ohio State was 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-3 on the penalty kill in the win.
- Thompson leads the Buckeyes with 13 points, tying for second in goals with five and assists with eight. It was his third collegiate game with three or more points and his third collegiate two-goal game (his first as a Buckeye).
- Fontaine notched his third collegiate two-goal outing and his fourth career three-point night, both career bests as a Buckeye. He is second on the team with 11 points this season, tying for second with eight helpers.
- Hansen-Bukata leads the Buckeyes with nine assists and is tied for third with 10 points. He now has three two-assist games this season.
- Powell had his first two-point night with a goal and an assist. He is the fourth Buckeye rookie with a goal this season.
- Eberly is among the NCAA leaders with a 5-0-0 record, 1.29 goals-against average and .946 save percentage.
- The Buckeyes are averaging 3.64 goals a game, allowing 2.09 a night.
- Ohio State has scored four or more goals in a period four times this season.
