
Buckeyes Win Flight Titles at MSU Spartan Invite

Tournament runs Friday through Sunday
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four members of the Ohio State women's tennis team competed in the MSU Spartan Invite hosted by Michigan State in East Lansing, Mich., this weekend. The Buckeyes were joined by players from host Michigan State, Butler, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Iowa and Northwestern.

Megan Basil (Flight D), Alessia Cau (Flight B) and Nao Nishino (Flight A) all won their flight titles with three consecutive wins each. Nishino and Dani Schoenly paired up for a 3-0 doubles ledger and Cau and Basil were 2-1 as a duo.Â

The Buckeyes in Action
On day one, Ohio State was a perfect 6-0, with four singles wins and two doubles victories. In singles, Nishino and Cau posted straight-set victories, while Schoenly and Basil both won in three sets. Nishino and Schoenly paired up for a doubles shutout and Cau and Basil posted a 6-1 doubles victory.

Saturday, the Buckeyes were 3-1 in singles. Nishino and Cau both won in straight sets and Basil rallied for a three-set victory. Schoenly fell in a third set tiebreaker. Ohio State was also 3-1 in doubles, with Nishino and Shoenly 2-0 and Cau and Basil 1-1.Â
Only singles matches were played Sunday. Nishino and Cau captured their flight titles in straight sets and Basil prevailed in three sets.Â

The Schedule Ahead
- Two individual tournaments, the ITA Central Section Championships and ITA Conference Masters Championships will be held Nov. Thursday-Sunday.
- The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships have been moved to the fall and will be contested Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. Players can earn berths into the national championships through the four ITA events in the fall. More information on the pathway to the NCAAs is available HERE.
