
ITA Sectionals Complete for the Buckeyes

Five Buckeyes competed in Ann Arbor
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio State women's tennis competed in the ITA Central Sectional Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., Thursday through Sunday. Sydni Ratliff reached the singles quarterfinals and Audrey Spencer was in the consolation final to lead the Buckeyes.
Final draws are available HERE. Only players and doubles teams who had yet to earn a berth in the NCAA Championships and have made deep runs at the ITA All-American or ITA Regional Championships were eligible to participate in the ITA Sectional Championships. Each of the four sectional championships featured a 32-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles draw. Six singles players (semifinalists and two quarterfinal playoff winners) and three doubles teams (champion, finalist, third-place team) from each sectional secured spots into the NCAA Championships
NCAA Championships Up Next for Perry
Sophomore Luciana Perry earned a berth into the NCAA Singles Championship as the winner of the ITA Midwest Regional Championships in October . The tournament will be held Nov. 19-24 in Waco, Texas. It will be her second straight appearance; she reached the Round of 16 to earn All-America honors as a freshman last season.
ITA Central Sectional Championships Wrapup
On Thursday, Shelly Bereznyak and Sydni Ratliff posted first-round wins in singles to advance. Bereznyak, a No. 5-8 seed, topped Michigan's Reese Miller in straight sets. Ratliff was a three-set winner against No. 5-8 seed Carolina Gomez Alonso of Arkansas. Audrey Spencer dropper her match in three sets and Teah Chavez lost in straight sets. In doubles, Luciana Perry and Spencer, the No. 3 seed, battled back after dropping the first set to force a match tiebreaker, but fell 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (12) against a duo from Texas.
Friday, Ratliff downed Tulsa's Maria Berlanga, 7-5, 7-5, to earn a spot in the quarterfinals. Bereznyak dropped both sets in a tiebreaker to fall out of the main draw. Chavez won her first consolation match in a super tiebreaker and Spencer was a straight-set winner in consolation. The doubles duo of Spencer and Perry downed a team from Iowa in consolation play.
Saturday, Ratliff fell to Michigan's Piper Charney in the quarterfinals, moving into the quarterfinal playoffs. In the consolation draw, Spencer won twice Saturday, coming from a set down to win in a match tiebreaker in both.
On the final day, Ratliff faced Texas A&M's Daria Smetanikov in the quarterfinal playoff for a spot in the NCAA Championships, with the Aggie prevailing in straight sets. Spencer fell to Iowa's Daianne Hayashida in the consolation final and Spencer and Perry dropped their match to a duo from Michigan in the consolation semifinals.
