Buckeye This and That
- Addie Engel, who has not raced for the Buckeyes this season because of injury, won the last two Big Ten cross country women's championships, the first two titles in program history.
- Engel is a three-time First Team All-Big Ten honoree. Daniella Santos and Andrea Kuhn both earned a spot on the first team in 2022 and Santos was a second-team selection in 2023.
- Ohio State has had at least one all-conference selection among the women each of the last five seasons and a Top 6 finisher each of the last four years. Allie Guagenti was fifth in 2020, Engel was fourth in 2021 before finishing first in 2022 and '23, Santos was fourth in 2022 (and eighth in 2023) and Kuhn was sixth in 2022.
- The women have finished a program-best fourth three times (1984, 2014, 2022). The team placed fifth in 2023.
- For the current members of the women's team, Engel, Kuhn, Santos and Akemi Von Scherr have all raced in the last four Big Ten meets. Audrey DeSantis and Sydney Paul were in the lineup the last two championships and last season current Buckeyes Ana Karmol, Zoee Lehman and Aniya Mosley all ran at the conference event.
- Among the men on this year's roster, Zubin Jha and John Cuozzo have raced in each of the last four Big Ten Championships. Kaleb Martin has run in the last three and Sean Carney ran in 2022 and '23, with Kevin Agnew in the race in 2021 and '23. Liam Shaughnessy, Keegan Freyhof and Zach Beneteau were all in the lineup a season ago.
- Jha crossed the line in 18th last season, the first Buckeye man in the Top 20 since 2016.
- Ohio State's men's team has one Big Ten championship, in 1923, and finished runner-up eight times, most recently in 2009. The squad was seventh last season.
- Jack Agnew, Kevin Agnew, Jha and Weston Day have all been among the Top 5 men in each of the Buckeyes' four regular season races. Connor Long closed out the counters in the season-opening race, Martin was among the Top 5 Buckeyes at both Minnesota and Loyola and Shaughnessy was in the Top 5 last time out at Wisconsin Pre-Nationals.
- For the women, Akemi Von Scherr and Audrey DeSantis have been in the Top 5 in all four races and Daniella Santos was a counter in the three races she ran. Teodora Iovi and Sydney Paul both were in the Buckeye Top 5 in two races and Lehman and Mosley also have one Top 5 finish for the squad each. Kuhn made her season debut at Wisconsin and finished fifth for Ohio State.
- In the USFTFCCCA regional rankings released Oct. 21, the Buckeye women are seventh in the Great Lakes Region, with B1G schools No. 2 Wisconsin, No. 3 Michigan State and No. 5 Michigan in the Top 5 and Indiana No. 8. Ohio State's men are eighth in the region, with B1G schools No. 1 Wisconsin, No. 4 Michigan State, No. 5 Indiana, No. 6 Michigan, and No. 7 Purdue also in the Top 8.Â
- Two of the Buckeye men have been recognized with the B1G Freshman of the Week award. Jack Agnew was honored Sept. 4, with Weston Day earning the accolade Sept. 25.
