Trio of Buckeyes Earn WCHA Weekly Awards

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Joy Dunne, Emma Peschel and Josie St. Martin of the Ohio State women's hockey team were named players of the week by the Western Collegiate Hockey Association, the league announced Monday. Dunne is the Forward of the Week, Peschel is Defender of the Week and St. Martin picks up the Rookie of the Week honor after the Buckeyes finished 3-0-0 against non-conference opponents last week.

Dunne led the team with seven points in three games played last week for the Buckeyes. She tallied a goal in the team's 5-1 win over Mercyhurst last Tuesday and added three goals and three assists in the 2024 Women's Ice Breaker Tournament for Ohio State. In the team's first game of the tournament, she scored twice and assisted two goals in the Buckeyes' 11-0 win over Stonehill. In the championship game against Cornell, the O'Fallon, Mo. native recorded a goal and an assist in the 7-3 win.

Peschel also added at least a point in each of the Buckeyes' three non-conference games played last week, finishing the week with two goals and four assists for six points. She started the week with two assists in the win over the Lakers and scored twice and added an assist for three points in the win over the Skyhawks to open the Ice Breaker tournament. She finished the tournament with an assist in the championship game. Peschel, a junior from Edina, Minn., also tied for the team lead with a +8 on ice in last week's games and led the Buckeyes' defensive effort that held its opponents to 13.00 shots on goal and 1.33 goals per game over three games.

St. Martin picks up her first WCHA weekly award after her play last week for the Buckeyes. She recorded a career-high four points in Ohio State's win over Stonehill. The game was also her first multi-point and multi-goal (2) game of her career. She finished the Ice Breaker Tournament +6 on ice to help the team to the 2024 Women's Ice Breaker Tournament title.

The Buckeyes resume WCHA play this weekend at St. Thomas. The teams face off 3 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday from the St. Thomas Ice Arena in Mendota Heights, Minn. Both games will be streamed on B1G+ (subscription required). Â
