Teams will meet Friday in Columbus and Saturday in Bowling Green
The Basics
- The No. 19/17t Ohio State men's hockey team takes on instate foe Bowling Green in a home-and-home series this weekend.Â
- The teams will meet at 7 p.m. Friday in Value City Arena in Columbus and at 7:37 p.m. Saturday in Slater Family Ice Arena in Bowling Green, Ohio.
- The game Friday will be streamed through B1G+ (subscription required) and Saturday's contest will be on Midco Sports Plus. Ohio State Radio (1460 AM, Ohio State Buckeyes app and website) will carry both games. Live stats will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com both nights.
- Ohio State enters the series 3-0-1 after opening Big Ten play with two 2-1 wins at then-No. 16 Wisconsin last weekend. Bowling Green is 3-1-0 and fell on the road at Western Michigan (6-2) last Thursday before a 2-1 OT win at RIT last Saturday to wrap up the weekend.
- Fans are encouraged to wear a costume and get in the Halloween spirit at the game. Fans can visit trick or treat stations around the concourse to collect candy and small prizes.Â
- Free t-shirts will be handed out to the first 200 students and students who wear a costume will have a chance to win the costume contest and be picked for a prize.
- Single game, miniplan and group tickets are on sale now for all Buckeye men's hockey home games.

- Parking is free for all men's hockey home games.
- Since becoming nonconference foes starting in 2013-14, the Buckeyes and Bowling Green have met in eight of 11 seasons. Ohio State leads in those contests, 10-5-1.
- Ohio State moved into the national polls this week and is No. 19 in the USCHO rankings and tied for 17th in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live Top 20.
- Following the sweep at Wisconsin, Max Montes, who had three goals (including both gamewinners), was named Big Ten First Star of the Week and Logan Terness, who made 37 saves in Friday's overtime win, was recognized as the Big Ten Third Star of the Week. Â
- Three of the Buckeyes' next four games are at home. After this weekend's home-and-home series vs. Bowling Green, Ohio State will host Lake Superior State Nov. 2-3. Six straight road games follow (at Michigan State, at Lindenwood, at Princeton).Â
- Ohio State and Bowling Green have met 190 times, with the series beginning in 1966.
- The Falcons lead the overall series between Ohio State and Bowling Green, 98-82-10. In Columbus, the Buckeyes have the edge, 47-38-3 and on their home ice the Falcons lead 58-32-7.
- Ohio State and Bowling Green were founding members of the CCHA in 1971-72. The Buckeyes left and skated as an independent in 1973-74 and 1974-75, but rejoined the Falcons in the CCHA in 1975-76 and remained in the league until it disbanded in that form in 2012-13.Â
- Last season, Ohio State swept Bowling Green in a home-and-home series, with 6-2 and 4-2 wins, Jan. 5-6.Â
- In game one, BG led 1-0 after the first period. Riley Hughes tied the game 1:02 into the second before Scooter Brickey tallied back-to-back in the final five minutes to put the Buckeyes in the lead, with both an even strength and a 5-on-3 score. With just .4 on the clock, Dalton Messina scored shorthanded for a 4-1 Ohio State advantage. The Falcons ended the Buckeye goal run at 2:30 of the third for a 4-2 game. In the final six minutes of the game Cam Thiesing scored on a major power play and Thomas Weis notched a power play goal to wrap up the scoring. Ohio State outshot Bowling Green 41-25, including 31-15 over the final two periods.Â
- In game two, the teams traded power play goals in the first period for a 1-1 game after one, with Thiesing scoring on a 5x3 power play for Ohio State. Brickey gave the Buckeyes the lead late in the second, answered by the Falcons with a 5x3 tally. In the third Joe Dunlap put the Buckeyes ahead at 5:30. Buckeye goalie Logan Terness stopped all 12 shots he faced in the period to maintain the lead and Patrick Guzzo sealed the win with an empty net score in the final minute. The Buckeyes were outshot, 42-29.
- Head coach Steve Rohlik, a Wisconsin alum, hit the 200-career win mark Saturday vs. the Badgers. He is the third Buckeye coach to hit the mark, joining Jerry Welsh (328) and John Markell (280).
- Forward Max Montes was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week and senior goalie Logan Terness received Big Ten Third Star of the Week accolades after the sweep at Wisconsin.Â
- Montes extended his goal streak to four with three goals in the series, including both gamewinners. He tallied twice Friday, tying the game late in the first period and then notching the winner with 17 seconds remaining in overtime. It was his third career two-goal game and second at Wisconsin. Saturday, Montes gave the Buckeyes a 2-0 lead early in the third period.Â
- Terness made 37 saves to backstop the Buckeyes to the 2-1 overtime victory Friday. After allowing a goal on a major power play early in the first, he stopped the final 37 shots he saw over the last 61:08. Terness made five saves in the first period, 17 in the second and 13 in the third, adding three more in overtime. He was also named B1G First Star of the Week Oct. 31, 2023.
- Freshman Nathan Lewis posted an assist Saturday for his first collegiate point. His classmate James Hong had an assist in the game for his first collegiate helper after scoring the Buckeyes' first goal of the season vs. AIC.
- Goalie Kristoffer Eberly made 28 saves on 29 shots to pick up the Saturday win and move to 2-0 on the year.
- Defenseman Aiden Hansen-Bukata posted his team-best fifth assist of the year in game two. He has a helper in three of four games this season. Hansen-Bukata led the Buckeye squad with six shot blocks in the series, blocking three in each game.
- Blueliner Damien Carfagna notched his fourth assist and fifth point of the year in the Saturday game against the Badgers. He had a team-best five shot blocks in the opener and is first on the team with10 this season.Â
- Carfagna and Hansen-Bukata, who lead the Buckeyes in points, share the B1G scoring lead among defensemen.Â
- Montes is tied for the Big Ten lead in goals with five and is first with 1.25 goals a game. He also ranks first with a .357 shooting percentage, with five goals on 14 shots.Â
- Riley Thompson moved his point streak to three with an assist in game one and goal in game two vs. Wisconsin.
- Ohio State will host former CCHA foe Lake Superior State for a two-game series Nov. 1-2 in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. in game one and 5 p.m. in game two. B1G+ will stream both matchups. Game one is the Our Honor Defend Military Appreciation Game. A free postgame skate is planned for game two and Script Ohio on Ice will be performed at the first intermission that night.
