Defensemen scored all three Ohio State goals
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Behind goals from defensemen Brent Johnson, Aiden Hansen-Bukata and Damien Carfagna, the No. 19/17t Ohio State men's hockey team defeated Bowling Green, 3-1, Friday in Value City Arena in Columbus. Buckeye goalie Logan Terness stopped 25 shots in the win, with the Buckeyes combining for 17 shot blocks.
Ohio State improves to 4-0-1 on the year, with Bowling Green now 3-2-0.
The game opened a home-and-home series between the teams. The squads will face off at 7:37 p.m. Saturday in Bowling Green. The game will be carried on Ohio State Radio and streamed through Midco Sports Plus.

How it Happened
- The Buckeyes led 2-0 after the first period and outshot the Falcons 10-3 in the opening 20 minutes.
- Brent Johnson put Ohio State on the board at 12:37. After a flurry around the net for the Buckeyes, the puck came out to Johnson up high and it got through traffic and in for his first goal of the season. Joe Dunlap and Aiden Hansen-Bukata assisted on the tally.
- Hansen-Bukata doubled the lead, as his shot from the point got through a screen just 11 seconds into the Buckeyes' first power play chance of the game. Davis Burnside and Gunnarwolfe Fontaine notched the helpers on Hansen-Bukata's first goal in the Scarlet and Gray.
- Neither team found the back of the net in the second period, with Ohio State again ahead in shots, 8-4.
- Just 15 seconds into the third period, the Falcons appeared to make it a 2-1 game with a power play goal. After an officials' review, it was determined the net was knocked off by BGSU before the puck crossed the goal line.
- At 2:08 Bowling Green did get on the board, as Maxwell Martin scored on a backhand on the rush.
- Buckeye Damien Carfagna added an insurance goal at 13:18, converting another shot from the point. The assists were from Chris Able, marking his first collegiate point, and Burnside.
- Bowling Green pulled its goalie with 3:06 remaining for the extra attacker but the Buckeyes closed out the win, helped by five saves and five shot blocks.
- Shots were 19-8 in favor of BGSU in the third period.
- For the game, Buckeye goalie Logan Terness made 25 saves on 26 shots in all 60 minutes. BGSU's Cole Moore made 23 stops in 56:54.
- Ohio State blocked 17 Falcon shot attempts. Johnson was first with five and forward Dylan Godbout had three blocks. Bowling Green had 16 shot blocks in the game.
- The Buckeyes were 1-for-4 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill.
- Hansen-Bukata leads Ohio State with six assists and seven points. He has a point in four of five games, with three two-point nights.
- Burnside had his third career two-assist game and his 11th two-point outing.
- Fontaine now has 99 points in his collegiate career.
- Johnson's goal was his first of the season and Carfagna now has two goals on the year, ranking second on the team with six points.
- Carfagna now has three career games at Ohio State with five shot blocks. He is first on the team with 11 this season.
- Terness is 2-0-1, with a 1.59 goals-against average and .942 save percentage, this year.
- Max Montes had his four-game goal-scoring streak end in the win.
- Ohio State will host former CCHA foe Lake Superior State for a two-game series Nov. 1-2 in Value City Arena. The teams will meet at 7 p.m. in game one and 5 p.m. in game two. B1G+ will stream both matchups. Game one is the Our Honor Defend Military Appreciation Game. A free postgame skate is planned for game two and Script Ohio on Ice will be performed at the first intermission that night.
