Swimming & Diving Opens 2024-25 Season on Saturday

COLUMBUS, Ohio –The No. 11 Ohio State women's swimming and diving team and No. 12 men's swimming and diving team open the 2024-25 season on Saturday, Oct. 19 in Columbus. Both teams will face Kentucky, and the women will also take on Akron.

- Saturday's meet begins at 1:00 p.m. at McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion.
- Fans can find paid parking in either the Tuttle Garage or the Neil Ave. Garage.

- The women's team returns 21 student-athletes from last year's squad and welcomes 15 newcomers.
- The returning group includes 2024 Big Ten champions Nyah Funderburke (400 medley relay), Lena Hentschel (1-meter dive), Teresa Ivan (50 free, 200 medley relay) and Katherine Zenick (100 fly, 200 medley relay).
- Ohio State placed second at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, falling to Indiana by just half a point. The Buckeyes totaled 1,358.5 points, won seven events and collected 16 medals over four days of competition.
- Hentschel and freshman Emma Finlin competed in the Paris Olympics over the summer. Hentschel represented Germany at the Olympic Games for the second time and competed in the 3-meter synchronized dive. Finlin swam in her first career Olympics, representing Canada in the 10-kilometer marathon swim.
- The Buckeyes last faced Akron in November of 2023 and picked up a 222.5-77.5 win against the Zips.
- Ohio State and Kentucky last competed head-to-head on Jan. 4, 2020. The Buckeyes were victorious, 163-156.
- The men's return 22 student-athletes from last season and welcome 16 newcomers.
- Returners include Big Ten champions Sam Campbell (1650 free) and Tomas Navikonis (200 free).
- The Buckeyes placed second at the 2024 Big Ten Championships with 1,266 points. It was the 15th straight season Ohio State has placed in the top three at the conference championships.
- Alex Axon, Tristan Jankovics and Navikonis all competed at the Paris Olympics. Axon and Jankovics both represented team Canada. Axon was a part of the 4x200 free relay team and Jankovics swam the 400 IM. Navikonis was on Lithuania's 4x200 free relay team.
- The Buckeyes last faced Kentucky in a dual meet on Jan. 4, 2020. Ohio State earned a 175.5-142.5 win over the Wildcats.
- The Buckeyes host Denison for a dual meet on Friday, Oct. 25 at 5:00 p.m.
