COLUMBUS, Ohio – Graduate goaltender Amanda Thiele of the Ohio State women's hockey team is the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Goaltender of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Thiele helped the Buckeyes to a 1-0-1 weekend against then-ranked No. 2 Minnesota with season-best performances in net.
Â
Thiele played both games in goal against the Gophers. In game one, she made 24 saves to help the Buckeyes to a 4-3 win. In Saturday's 1-1 tie, she made 28 saves and stopped five of six shots in the shootout to help the team finish the weekend with five of six conference points against the Gophers.
Â
Her 28 saves against Minnesota on Saturday are a season high for the Buckeyes. She finished the weekend with a .929 save percentage and held the Gophers, who were averaging over three goals per game entering the weekend, to just four goals the entire series.
Â
Her career record after the weekend is 56-10-2. She is one win shy of tying the program record for career wins by a Buckeye goaltender.
Â
The award is her first of the season and fifth of her career.
Â
The Buckeyes continue their WCHA schedule this weekend at St. Cloud State. The Buckeyes (5-2-1, 3-2-1 WCHA) and Huskies (6-0-0, 2-0-0 WCHA) face off at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Saturday from Herb Brooks National Hockey Center in St. Cloud, Minn. Â Â
