No. 13 Buckeyes Shut Out Sun Devils, Advance to National Indoors

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State women's tennis team is heading to Seattle for the ITA National Team Indoor Championship after defeating Arizona State, 4-0, Saturday in the ITA Kickoff Weekend Columbus championship match.

The Buckeyes (3-1) will compete in National Indoors for the eighth time in nine years, including six straight seasons. The event will be Feb. 9-12 in Seattle, Wash.

Ohio State won the doubles point and took a one-set lead in all six singles matches vs. Arizona State. Audrey Spencer, Irina Cantos and Teah Chavez all won in straight sets to clinch the team victory. Cantos and Spencer also teamed up for a doubles victory, with Sydni Ratliff and Luciana Perry clinching the doubles point.

"I'm really happy for the team. This was something we talked about a lot and marked on the calendar. We know this is a big weekend for us, so to see them out there competing the way they did is awesome! We have another big weekend coming up with Duke and UCLA here next weekend and we couldn't be more excited to be back on our home courts again."

How it Happened
- The Buckeyes won the doubles point for the third match in a row.
- Ohio State's duo of Irina Cantos Siemers and Audrey Spencer jumped out to a 4-2 lead and downed the Sun Devils' tandem of Giulia Morlet and Ada Piestrzynska, 6-3, on court two.
- On court one, Buckeyes Sydni Ratliff and Luciana Perry clinched the doubles point, breaking to win 6-4 over Patricija Spaka and Chelsea Fontenel.
- The court three doubles match was abandoned at four-all.
- The Buckeyes won all six first sets to open singles.
- Spencer dropped just one game in each set on court six vs. Piestrzynska to put the Buckeyes up 2-0.
- On court one, No. 15-ranked Cantos Siemers was down early against No. 61 Morlet, but won the final four games of the first set and all six in the second for a 6-4, 6-0 victory.
- Freshman Teah Chavez cliched the team victory. On court five, she took the first set 6-4 against Spake, winning the final four games. In the second set, Chavez held a 4-2 lead and won 6-3.
- Perry, Ratliff and Shelly Berezynak were all up a set when play was abandoned.
- Next up, Ohio State will host No. 15 Duke Friday at 1 p.m. and No. 12 UCLA Sunday (Feb. 4), at a time to be determined.
