No. 13 Buckeyes Open ITA Kickoff with 4-0 Win over Notre Dame

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 13 Ohio State women's tennis team opened its home schedule and ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-0 victory over Notre Dame Friday morning in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center.

The Buckeyes (2-1) will take on Arizona State in the championship match at 4 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the ITA National Team Indoor Championship. The Irish and Jayhawks will meet in the consolation match at 7 p.m. Both matches will be in the Ty Tucker Tennis Center, with admission and parking free. A livestream and live scoring will be available through OhioStateBuckeyes.com HERE and Cracked Racquets will have coverage on their YouTube channel.

Against the Irish, Ohio State won the doubles point and the first three singles matches in straight sets for the victory. Sydni Ratliff won in singles and doubles for the Buckeyes, with Irina Cantos Siemers and Shelly Bereznyak also victorious in singles. Ratliff paired with Luciana Perry to clinch the doubles point and Madeline Atway and Teah Chavez teamed up for a doubles win. ASU beat KU in the other first-round match, 4-2.

How it Happened
- The Buckeye tandem of Madeline Atway and Teah Chavez won five of the first six games en route to a 6-2 win on court three vs. Bojana Pozer and Akari Matsuno.
- On court one, Sydni Ratliff and Luciana Perry prevailed 7-5 against Carrie Beckman and Page Freeman. The Buckeyes broke for a 6-5 lead and then served out the win.
- The court two match was abandoned with Ohio State serving 5-6.
- Ratliff put the Buckeyes up 2-0, as she dropped just three first-set games in a straight set win over Yashna Yellayi on court three.
- No. 15-ranked Irina Cantos Siemers also posted a second-set shutout, as she topped Freeman on court one, 6-4, 6-0.
- Shortly after Cantos Siemers' win, Shelly Bereznyak clinched the Ohio State team victory, closing out a 6-3, 6-2 win on court five vs. Matsuno.
- Ohio State won five of six first sets in the match. Perry was ahead 4-0 in her second set on court two when the team match was clinched and Chavez was down a break in her second set. Spencer dropped her first set in a tiebreaker and they had not started the second on court six.
