COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State men's gymnastics team (1-0) travels to the Navy Open on Saturday at 2 p.m. The Buckeyes will face the No. 7 host team and also No. 5 Penn State, No. 11 Springfield and No. 14 William & Mary.
- Ohio State opened the 2024 season with a 395.000-387.350 win against Greenville on Saturday in the Covelli Center. Its 395.000 puts OSU at No. 6 in the country, while Greenville is No. 9 nationally.
- The Buckeyes earned four event wins against Greenville, with sophomore Caden Spencer winning parallel bars and high bar, sophomore Kristian Grahovski winning pommel horse and senior Donovan Hewitt winning rings.
- Spencer was named Big Ten Gymnast of the Week and CGA Specialist of the Week following his pair of event wins against Greenville. He was 2-for-2 in event wins at the meet, scoring a career-best 14.250 on parallel bars with a stuck dismount and a 14.350 (just 0.050 shy of his career-best) on high bar. He leads the country on high bar and ranks fourth on parallel bars.
- The Big Ten Conference picked senior Kameron Nelson and sophomore Parker Thackston as preseason gymnasts to watch after each had a successful season in 2023.
- Hewitt, Nelson and Tyler Rockwood were selected to be team captains this season.
- The Buckeyes added four newcomers to their roster in the offseason, welcoming freshman Drake Andrews, Chase Davenport-Mills, Michael Nguyen and Zach Snyder. Andrews, Davenport-Mills and Snyder all made their collegiate debuts in the season-opening win against Greenville.
Ohio State hosts the NCAA Championships on April 19-20 inside the Covelli Center with the qualifiers on Friday and the Championships on Saturday.
