
Groves Inducted into Ohio Golf Hall of Fame

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State men's golf alum and former women's golf head coach Steve Groves was inducted in the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame earlier this month.
Groves was a three-year letterwinner for the Buckeyes and was a three-time All-American, including two First Team All-American nods in 1972 and 1973. He captured the individual Big Ten title his senior season (1973) and was a three-time All-Big Ten selection. Groves also won the Ohio Amateur Championship in 1973.
Groves turned pro in 1973 and worked at multiple country clubs before returning to Columbus to become the head coach of the Ohio State women's golf program from 1980-87. He compiled an overall head-to-head record of 762-278 and brought the Buckeyes to three consecutive NCAA Championships (1983-85). Ohio State won the Big Ten Championship those same years and Groves earned Big Ten Coach of the Year honors in 1984. Groves coached multiple Buckeyes that went on to have professional success, including Meg Mallon, Cheryl Stacy, Suze Green-Roebuck, Susan Stump and Cathy Kratzert.
Groves, a native of Lancaster, Ohio, spent 19 years as the Head Professional at Champions Golf Course and eight years at Airport Golf Course. Currently, he works as an Assistant Professional at Kinsale Golf & Fitness Club.
Groves has played in two US Opens, a PGA Championship and two Senior PGA Championships and was named the Southern Ohio PGA Golf Professional of the Year in 2007.
In addition to the Ohio Golf Hall of Fame, Groves is a member of the Southern Ohio PGA Hall of Fame, the Lancaster High School Athletics Hall of Fame and the Ohio State Athletics Hall of Fame.
