COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Brian Maisonneuve returns to Bloomington, Indiana, this weekend to coach the Buckeyes on the field where he starred as a collegiate player from 1991-94. Ohio State takes on Seton Hall at 5 p.m. Friday in the opening match of the 2023 IU Classic before the host Hoosiers battle No. 22 Washington.Â
The Huskies then travel to Columbus to meet the Buckeyes at 7 p.m. Monday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. This game also is part if the IU Classic.Â
The Buckeyes are coming off an 0-1-1 showing to open the season in the annual Wolstein Classic. Ohio State posted a 1-all draw with CSUN in the season opener before falling to UC Davis, 2-1, in the event final last Sunday.Â
2023 Rookies/Newcomers
Ohio State added four freshmen to the 2023 roster to go with a pair of transfers to complete the roster this year. Three rookie newcomers hail from Ohio with defender Siggi Magnusson traveling from Denmark to Columbus. Michael Adedokun, a junior midfielder, transferred to Ohio State from Dayton  and graduate student David Wrona left Wake Forest to become a Buckeye. Â

Maisonneuve at OSUÂ
Brian Maisonneuve is in his sixth year as head coach of the Buckeyes. Maisonneuve came from Indiana University where he was associate head coach for the Hoosiers. The Buckeyes posted 11 victories, tied for second in the Big Ten and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament a year ago.Â
   As one of the top assistants in the country, Maisonneuve guided Indiana to the 2012 NCAA National Title, a NCAA runner-up finish in 2017, the 2010 Big Ten Regular-Season Title as well as the 2013 Big Ten Tournament Championship. Maisonneuve, a native of Warren, Michigan, is one of the top players in Indiana soccer history, winning the Hermann Trophy in 1994. He spent nine seasons with the Columbus Crew from 1996-2004 and was a member of the United States' 1998 World Cup team. Maisonneuve is assisted by Matt Foldesy, Travis Morris and Corey Brueggeman. Former Buckeye Devyn Etling was added in the offseason as a program assistant.
Game 1 - CSUN 8/24/23 (1-1)
Sean Ryan scored the first goal of the season for the Buckeyes on a header in the 67th minute to put OSU up 1-0 vs. CSUN in the Wolstein Classic. The Matadors countered with a goal in the 90' for the draw.
Game 2 - UC Davis 8/27/23 (1-2)
Tanner Creech scored the first goal of the game in the 2' but the Aggies countered with a pair of first-half goals and claim a 2-1 win in the final game of the Wolstein Classic in Columbus.Â

- Senior Laurence Wootton was named to the preseason Watch List for the 2023 Hermann Trophy by the United Soccer Coaches. He also was named the No. 2-rated player nationally by TopDrawerSoccer in its preseason list of Top 100 players nationally.Â
- Wootton and newcomer Michael Adedokun were named to the 2023 Wolstein Classic All-Tournament Team. The Buckeyes finished with a 0-1-1 record in the event, held last weekend in Columbus.Â
- After a team vote, seniors Wootton, Brayden Durbin, Owen Sullivan and Deylen Vellios were named captains of the 2023 Buckeyes.
- Wootton, Anthony Samways and Vellios were all named to the Big Ten Players to Watch List for 2023. In addition, the Buckeyes were tabbed as the No. 3 team in the rugged Big Ten Conference by the league coaches.Â
- Devyn Etling, a mainstay on the sidelines over the last six years, chose to remain in Columbus to assist the Buckeyes further as a program assistant in 2023. Etling finished his career in 2022 with 64 matches played and 17 goals in 46 starts.
- Academically, Ohio State had another outstanding year in the classroom in 2022. Returner Owen Sullivan and graduate Keagan McLaughlin both were named to the Ohio Collegiate Soccer Association Division I Academic All-Ohio team. In addition, 17 were named 2022 Academic All-Big Ten with 25 OSU Scholar Athletes and four Big Ten Distinguished Scholars (Connor DesRoches, McLaughlin, Peter Van Euwen and Deylen Vellios). Â
- In games played at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium since it opened in 1999, Ohio State is 132-68-35.
- The Buckeyes finished 11-3-6 overall in 2022 with a second place (tie) finish in the Big Ten. Ohio State then advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a first round win at Wake Forest, 3-0 before tie at UNC Greensboro. UNCG then advance on PKs. Â
- Ohio State made its 11th appearance in the NCAA Tournament ago and the first since 2015.
- The Buckeyes finished 7-0-2 at home during the 2022 regular season and then added a win in the 2022 Big Ten Tournament over MSU for an 8-0-2 record at JOMS. Ohio State was 8-0-1 in 2010 and 4-0-1 in 1974 and 4-0-0 in both 1965 and 1967 to mark the only other undefeated home seasons in Ohio State history. The eight home wins last year are the most since a 10-2-2 record at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in 2015.Â
- In 2023, Ohio State returns Big Ten honorees Wootton (2022 Midfielder of the Year/First Team All-Big Ten) and Anthony Samways, a Second Team All-Big Ten selection by the league coaches. Tanner Creech and Luciano Pechota (unanimous) earned spots on the All-Freshman team last year as well. Â Â
- The Buckeyes went undefeated in nonconference play for the first time in 2022 after the win over Northern Kentucky gave Ohio State a 5-0-3 record outside the Big Ten in regular-season competition last year. After the opening-season tie with CSUN this year, Ohio State had not lost a game outside the Big Ten in its last 14 outings (9-0-5) dating to the 2021 season. That streak ended with a 2-1 defeat against UC Davis last Sunday.
