Four Standouts Named to CSC Academic All-District Team

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Four standouts on the Ohio State women’s tennis team have been named to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Teams. To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 grade-point average at her current institution.
Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, voted on by the CSC members. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced this week.
Shelly Bereznyak, a sophomore majoring in accounting from Bat Yam, Israel, was 21-7 overall in 2022-23, including a 15-2 record in dual matches. Bereznyak posted 16 doubles victories this year, with 12 in dual play. She received the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award for Ohio State this season.
Senior Irina Cantos Siemers is working toward her master’s degree in sport management after earning her bachelor’s degree in communication. She was named the 2023 Big Ten Player of the Year and is a three-time unanimous All-Big Ten selection. Cantos Siemers has been ranked in the singles Top 25 all season and the doubles Top 40 and reached the second round of the NCAA Singles Championship. She was 25-11 overall and had a 17-5 dual match ledger this season.
Lucia Marzal, a senior from Valencia, Spain, received her bachelor’s degree in international business in Spring 2022 and earned her master’s in sport management this spring. She led the Buckeyes with a 19-2 mark in dual matches this year and was 26-11 overall to lead the team in wins.
Sophomore Sydni Ratliff is a communication major from Columbus. A unanimous All-Big Ten selection and NCAA Singles Championship qualifier, she was 10-8 in dual play and 22-15 overall in singles in 2022-23. The 2022 Big Ten Freshman of the Year also posted 17 doubles victories this year. Ratliff was ranked in the Top 40 in singles and doubles throughout the year.
All four Buckeyes were named Ohio State Scholar-Athletes and are expected to receive Academic All-Big Ten honors later this spring.
