COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five Ohio State Buckeyes will have the opportunity to gain real-world and real-life work experience this summer in Columbus as members of the Bucks Go Pro 1.0 and 2.0 classes.
Sophomore Kami Kortokrax, a communications major, will spend eight weeks this summer interning with the Athletics Communications office, which handles publicity efforts for all 36 varsity sports at Ohio State. She’ll have the opportunity to create content to be used on social media and OhioStateBuckeyes.com while also learning about media relations, writing, record keeping and more.
Kortokrax’s internship is part of the Bucks Go Pro 1.0 program, which is the most tenured program that is a part of the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute. It runs for eight weeks and in addition to allowing for hands-on professional experience, it also incorporates an educational curriculum focused on areas such as networking, leadership and personal finance.
Four other student-athletes have been chosen for internships as part of the Bucks Go Pro 2.0 program. They are: Hannah Church (Upper Arlington High School), McKenzie Bump (Ohio State Sports Properties), Lindsey Potter (Level-Collective) and Emily Ruck (Muirfield Village Golf Club).
The 2.0 program is comprised of 56 student-athletes from 21 different sports and allows for intensive internship experience in a multitude of roles for companies in the Columbus and Central Ohio community.
Both internship programs strive to:
- Provide the student-athletes with meaningful work experience in a professional setting
- Help enhance student-athletes’ resumes
- Teach student-athletes how to develop a network of colleagues
- Expand our student-athletes’ reference beyond their professors and coaches
- Help our student-athletes be better prepared for life after college and represent Ohio State with class in their professional endeavors.”
