
Buckeyes Drop B1G Contest at No. 10 Maryland

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's lacrosse team fell at No. 10 Maryland, 18-7, Saturday afternoon in College Park, Md. The Terps (12-3, 4-0 B1G) scored the game's first two goals early and carried the lead throughout the game vs. the Buckeyes (5-9, 0-4 B1G).
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes' regular season home finale will be vs. No. 2 Northwestern at 6 p.m. Saturday in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium, televised by ESPNU. Admission and parking are free.
- The regular season wraps up at Rutgers April 20, with the teams meeting in Piscataway, N.J., at 6 p.m. on BTN.
- After a quarterfinal round slate of games at campus sites hosted by higher seeds, Ohio State will host the Big Ten Tournament semifinals and final. The semis are set for 6 and 8 p.m. May 4 and the final will be played at 8 p.m. May 6. Ticket information will be coming soon.
Buckeyes vs. Terps
Maryland scored twice in the first 1:20 of the contest before Buckeye Maddie Barhorst converted a free position chance for a 2-1 game at 12:03. The Terps tallied the next two, at 11:13 and 7:30. Back-to-back goals from the Buckeyes again made it a one-goal game (4-3) at 2:24. Nicole Ferrara scored on a free position at 6:03 and then set up Amani Kimball-McKavish right in front at 2:24.
The Terps tallied the next eight goals, with three before the end of the first quarter for a 7-3 lead at the break. Maryland shut out the Buckeyes in the second quarter and tallied four times for an 11-3 advantage at halftime.
Maryland opened the scoring in the third at 13:37. Ferrara scored off a pass from Jamie Lasda at 12:03 to end the Terp run and Lasda tallied unassisted at 5:37. The Terps notched the next two, scoring in just over a minute, before Ferrara set up Annie Hargraves for a tally with 57 seconds left in the quarter. The final goal of the quarter came with three seconds left and was a player-up score for Maryland.
The Terps scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter, at 13:49, 10:19 and 3:06. Buckeye Lasda drove the cage and scored with 2:11 remaining for the game's final goal.
Ferrara led the Buckeyes with four points, posting two goals and two assists, and Lasda had a three-point day with two goals and an assist. Maryland's Eloise Clevenger had eight assists and nine points and Hannah Leubecker and Shannon Smith each scored four times.
Maryland led in shots, 32-16. Regan Alexander made nine saves in the Buckeye cage and two Maryland goalies combined for six stops. Ohio State had the edge in ground balls, 17-16, and the Terps had the advantage in draw controls, 19-10. Alexander had a Buckeye-high three ground balls and Caly O'Brien, Sarah Johnson and Hargraves each had two. Emily Magalotti and Hargraves each had three draw controls and Chloe Johnson and O'Brien notched two apiece. Ohio State had 12 caused turnovers; nine Buckeyes had one and Magalotti had a career-high tying three.
Buckeye This and That
- Ferrara, who is on nine-game goal and point streaks, had her eighth career four-point game and 23rd with four or more points. She now has 104 goals in the Scarlet and Gray, adding 44 assists for 148 points. She leads the squad with 35 goals this season and is second with 44 points.
- Lasda has a team-best 25 assists and 46 points this season, both career highs, and is second with 21 goals.
- Chloe Johnson now has 229 draw controls in her career. She is second all-time, eight behind Molly Wood, who had 237 from 2015-18.
- Hargraves has at least one goal in each of the last four games and 11 on the year.
- Kimball-McKavish's goal was her second of the season and first since Feb. 10 vs. Robert Morris.
