COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 3-ranked Ohio State rolled again as the Buckeyes swept Michigan State 7-0 on Friday afternoon outside in chilly East Lansing.
The Buckeyes have now beaten Michigan State 30 consecutive times and have swept the Spartans in each of the last 13 matches.
The win improves the Buckeyes to 22-2 on the season and 5-0 in Big Ten play. That sets up a key showdown with fellow Big Ten unbeaten and No. 4-ranked Michigan on Sunday.
Doubles
- Kingsley and Tracy finished first on court three, controlling their match from start to finish over Kazuki Matsuno and David Saye. The Buckeye duo raced to a 6-1 victory and secured their 12th win as a pair this year.
- Both Kingsley/Tracy and Cash/Boulais jumped out to 4-1 leads in their respective matches. But, on court two, Cash and Boulais' match against Reed Crocker and Josh Portnoy would go unfinished with the score remaining 4-1.
- The No. 8-ranked pair of Lutschaunig and Trotter defeated Ozan Baris and Anthony Pero 6-2 to clinch the doubles tally for the Buckeyes. The pair is now two matches above .500 at 8-6 on the year, playing the majority of their matches at No. 1 doubles.
Singles
- James Trotter continued his torrid season as he beat Josh Portnoy 6-1, 6-0 to improve to a remarkable 20-0.
- JJ Tracy made it 3-0 as he had little trouble defeating Anthony Pero 6-2, 6-1 on court three.
- The clinching point came from Jack Anthrop on court six. He beat Kazuki Matsuno 6-1, 6-2 to improve to 14-3 in and win his 8th consecutive match.
- Cannon Kingsley, the reigning Big Ten Athlete of the Week, won 6-3, 6-2 over Luke Baylis on court two for his fourth consecutive victory.
- Freshman Alexander Bernard downed David Saye 7-5 in the opening set and breezed to a 6-2 win in the second to make the score 6-0.
- The final point came from Justin Boulais on court one. He took on No. 40 Ozan Baris and the two split the first two sets. In the super-tiebreaker, Boulais outlasted Baris 11-9 to complete the sweep.
