
Six Buckeyes to Play at 2023 Women’s World Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Six past and present Buckeyes will play at the 2023 IIHF Women's World Championships, starting Wednesday, April 5 in Brampton, Ontario at the CAA Centre. Four teams will have at least one Ohio State player on its roster at the world championships.
Roster Breakdown
On Team Canada, Emma Maltais and Natalie Spooner reunite to help the team defend its 2021 and 2022 gold medal. Spooner will be playing in her ninth world championships and Maltais in her third. Both played for Canada on the 2022 gold medal Olympic team.
Ohio State signees Cayla Barnes and Hannah Bilka will play for Team USA at the upcoming tournament. Barnes, who was a member of the 2022 Olympic team, will be skating for the United States in her fourth world championships while Bilka is playing in her second.
Rising sophomore Sofie Lundin is set to play for Team Sweden in the tournament, her fourth world championship with the senior national team. As a freshman at Ohio State, Lundin skated in 34 games, recording four points on two goals and two assists and adding three blocked shots on the year.
A 2022 Ohio State graduate, Andrea Braendli will backstop for Team Switzerland in the world championship tournament for the third consecutive year.
Game Schedule
Preliminary games will be played April 5-11 with quarterfinals being played on April 13, followed by the semifinals on April 15 and medal games on April 16.
In the United States, games involving Team USA will be broadcast on NHL Network as well as the semifinal and gold medal games. In Canada, games involving Team Canada will be broadcast on TSN.
