COLUMBUS, Ohio – For the 25th time in the history of the tournament, Ohio State hoisted the trophy at the Robert Kepler Intercollegiate. The Buckeyes carded the best final round of the day, a 6-over 290, to beat Kent State by 19 shots.
This was the Buckeyes second win this season and it was the first time winning the Kepler since 2019. That year, the tournament was shortened to 36 holes due to weather. This was the first 54-hole event title at the Kepler for the Buckeyes since 2003.
All five Buckeyes in the scoring group finished in the Top 10, led by senior Jackson Chandler who finished tied for second at even-par. Chandler played his final four holes at 2-under par to finish with a 1-over 72. This was the highest finish of Chandler’s career, and it was his best finish since tying for fourth at the NCAA Regional last May, which was also on the Scarlet Course.
Sunday was the toughest day for scoring as the temperature never reach 50 degrees and there was a cool breeze all day. The final round scoring average was 76.44, the highest of the tournament.
JonErik Alford enjoyed his best tournament at the Kepler, finishing with a final round 71 and a 54-hole total of 1-over 214 to finish in fourth place. He posted the low round of the day for the Buckeyes each of the last two days.
Adam Wallin finished a shot behind Alford at 2-over as he played his final six holes in 1-under par to post a 74.
Maxwell Moldovan claimed his eighth Top 10 finish in 10 events this season, finishing with a birdie on No. 18 for a final round 73. He tied with Neal Shipley for seventh at 4-over par. Shipley had a pair of even-par 71s in the first two rounds before posting a 75 on Sunday.
For the B team, Topher Reed and Tyler Groomes led the way at 9-over par. Groomes carded a final round 76 while Reed came in with a 77. Jacob Tarkany and Joe Wilson IV were both a shot back as they tied at 10-over par. Wilson made an eagle and a birdie on his closing nine to post the low round of the day for the B team with a 74. Tarkany finished up with a 75.
Patrick Schmucking posted a final round 78 to finish at 13-over and Drew Mulcahy, who played as an individual, shot a 77 and finished at 14-over par.
Ohio State now sets it sights on next weekend’s Big Ten Championship. The tournament is being held at Galloway National Golf Club in Galloway, N.J. The Buckeyes will start the tournament at 9 a.m. on Friday morning.
