Buckeyes Lead After Day 1 of Kepler Intercollegiate

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Led by five players in the Top 10, Ohio State holds the lead through the first day of the 51st annual Robert Kepler Intercollegiate at the OSU Golf Club.
Play was halted midway through the second round as the Buckeyes were 5-under for the round and 4-under overall. That’s one shot ahead of Kent State.
Junior Adam Wallin has had a tough month, but he seems to be back on form as he leads the Buckeye contingent. He opened with a 2-under 69 and is currently 1-under through 10 holes in round two. He is tied for second and just three shots off the individual lead.
Neal Shipley is one of four Buckeyes who are 2-under par halfway through the second round. He made a nice birdie on the tough par-3 eighth in windy, cool conditions at the end of the day. Jackson Chandler is the third Buckeye under-par for the day as he carded an opening 1-under 70 and is even for his second round.
Tyler Groomes and Topher Reed, who are both playing for the B squad this weekend, are tied for eighth place at even par. Groomes has matched six birdies with six bogeys through 26 holes. Reed shot out of the gate and was 4-under through his first four holes this morning. He hit a rough patch midway through the morning round and wound up with a 73 but made three birdies in his last five holes of the second round to sit at even-par.
Junior All-American Maxwell Moldovan got off to a tough start as he was 3-over through the first two holes. But he has been battling even since and sits at 2-under for the second round and 2-over the tournament. JonErik Alford, Patrick Schmucking and Jacob Tarkany are all in a tie for 25th at 4-over par. Joe Wilson IV is just a shot back at 5-over and Drew Mulcahy is in a tie for 59th at 8-over par.
Play is scheduled to resume at 9:30 a.m. and an hour following the completion of the second round, the final round will begin off the first tee.
