
Buckeyes Suffer OT Loss at Rutgers

COLUMBUS, Ohio – In the final game of the regular season, the Ohio State women's lacrosse team fell in overtime at Rutgers, 13-12, Thursday evening in SHI Stadium in Piscataway, N.J. Ohio State (5-11, 0-6 B1G) led 11-7 after the third quarter but was outscored by Rutgers (7-7, 1-5 B1G) 5-1 in the fourth to send the game to overtime.
Chloe Johnson had a game-high nine draw controls, as she broke the Buckeye career record of 237, passing Molly Wood (2015-18). Johnson now has 243 in 62 games in the Scarlet and Gray.
Jamie Level led the Buckeyes with a career-high tying four goals and five points. Casey Roberts had three points with two goals and an assist, while Nicole Ferrara had a three-point night on a goal and two helpers. Regan Alexander made nine saves in the Buckeye cage, including five in the second half.
The Schedule Ahead
- The Buckeyes will play a Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal game next Saturday, with the opponent to be determined after the remaining league games this weekend.
- Ohio State will host the Big Ten Tournament semifinals and final in Ohio State Lacrosse Stadium. The semis are set for 6 and 8:30 p.m. May 4 and the final will be played at 8 p.m. May 6. Ticket information will be coming soon.
How it Happened
- The teams were tied at four after the first quarter.
- Nicole Ferrara found Zoe Coleman right in front with 12:22 left in the first to open the scoring. Ferrera is on a team-high 11-game scoring streak.
- Rutgers scored the next two, with a free position goal at 8:48 and an unassisted tally 33 seconds later.
- Buckeye senior Jamie Level notched the next two, with a free position at 7:09 and unassisted score at 4:35, for a 3-2 Ohio State advantage.
- Ava Kane tallied the next two for the Scarlet Knights at 3:49 and 1:14, putting RU up 4-3.
- Level completed her hat trick with 11 seconds left in the quarter, scoring on an eight-meter, to deadlock the score.
- The Buckeyes outscored the Scarlet Knights 4-1 in the second quarter for an 8-5 lead at halftime.
- Ferrara (on a free position chance) and Rutgers traded goals early in the quarter, at 14:27 and 12:31, respectively.
- Ohio State then went on a three-goal run, shutting out the Scarlet Knights the rest of the quarter. Casey Roberts set up Annie Hargraves at 9:40, Lasda tallied unassisted at 8:58 and Roberts then scored on a free position at 2:40.
- Rutgers scored the first goal of the third quarter at 11:55.
- Ohio State answered with another three-goal run. Caly O'Brien and Level had free position goals, sandwiched around a tally from Roberts, assisted by Level.
- A free position goal from Rutgers with 1:12 left in the third quarter made it 11-7 Buckeyes through 45 minutes.
- Ferrara found O'Brien 45 seconds into the fourth quarter to push the Buckeye lead to 12-7.
- Rutgers scored the next five to close out the quarter and send the game to overtime. The Scarlet Knights tallied three times in just over three minutes, at 12:49, 12:00 and 9:35, to draw within two (12-10). Free position goals at 7:17 and 2:40 deadlocked the score.
- In overtime, Ohio State had the first possession but was unable to score, turning the ball over. A first Rutgers shot was saved, but Lily Dixon's fourth goal of the game, scored with 49 seconds on the clock, gave the Scarlet Knights the win.
- Rutgers had the shot advantage, 27-20. Regan Alexander made nine saves for the Buckeyes, including three in the fourth quarter.
- Ohio State led in draw controls, 17-11, and Rutgers was ahead in ground balls, 18-10. Each team was 17-for-20 on clears.
- The Buckeyes converted 6-of-8 free position chances; Rutgers was 5-for-9.
- Buckeye Chloe Johnson had a game-high nine draw controls, O'Brien had four and Level had three.
- Alexander, Emily Magalotti, Katie Kaucheck and Sara Johnson each picked up three ground balls for the Buckeyes. Magalotti also had two caused turnovers.
