Buckeyes Start Strong at Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State track and field team began the weekend’s competition at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational, hosted by Florida, on Friday.
TOM JONES MEMORIAL INVITATIONAL
- Hammer throw: Evan Johnson began the meet for the Buckeyes with a PR of 54.62m / 179’2” in the hammer throw to finish ninth. The Buckeye women earned a pair of PR’s with Marissa Henley finishing as the runner-up (58.23m / 191’0”) and Lacey Stringer finishing seventh (56.03m / 183’10”).
- High jump: Sean Kaminski made his collegiate debut and cleared 1.99m / 6’6.25” to finish tie for fourth. In the invitational competition, Shaun Miller Jr. tied for four by clearing 2.14m / 7’0.25”.
- Pole vault: The Buckeye men had a pair finish in the top-10 with Luke Bendick in seventh (5.13m / 16’10”) and Daniel Drellishak in 10th (4.98m / 16’4”).
- Shot put: Carlos Aviles finished seventh (18.16m / 59’7”) in the men’s invitational.
- 200m: Yanique Dayle led the Buckeye women with a wind-aided 23.03 to finish 14th in a field of nearly 100, while Nya Bussey tied her PR (23.35). Armani Modeste led the OSU men with a wind-aided 20.94.
- 400m hurdles: Evan Matthews ran a PR (52.07) on the men’s side, while Avery Clark represented the Ohio State women (1:04.56). 0
- Long jump: Atinuke Shittu competed in the women’s long jump with a best mark of 5.55m / 18’2.25”. On the men’s side, Clarence Foote-Talley’s best mark was 6.86m / 22’6.25”.

The Buckeyes continue competition at Florida on Saturday and also compete at the Ohio Cherry Blossom Invitational in Athens, Ohio.
