
No. 13 Buckeyes Sweep at Lewis, 3-0

COLUMBUS, Ohio – No. 15 Ohio State (16-9, 8-3) swept Lewis (14-11, 5-6) for the second time this year 3-0 Thursday at Neil Carey Arena in Romeoville, Illinois. The Buckeyes downed the Flyers earlier in the year at the Covelli Center by the same score.
The match was close throughout with the Buckeyes winning 25-23, 28-26, 25-19.
Shane Wetzel and Jacob Pasteur led the way with 13 kills each while Jack Stevens added 12.
Michael Wright led both teams with 39 assists and six digs. He now has 1,556 career assists, good for the No. 11 spot on the all-time career assist list at Ohio State. Todd Brooks (1989-92) is No. 10 with 1,672.
Jacob Pasteur now has 967 career kills, good for the No. 17 spot all-time at Ohio State. Michael Henchy (2012-15) is next at No. 16 with 1,001 career kills.
How it Happened
Set 1
Neither team was able to gain any separation until the Buckeyes used a 4-1 run to take an 8-6 lead. Jacob Pasteur, who was named the AVCA National Player of the Week and the MIVA Offensive Player of the Week Tuesday, put the Buckeyes up 11-8 with a kill. The Flyers rallied to tie the set at 14-all but then committed back-to-back errors to put Ohio State back in the lead, 16-14. Lewis tied it again at 16 and then went on top 18-17 on a Buckeye error. Kills by Jack Stevens and Shane Wetzel put the Buckeyes back on top 19-18. The Buckeyes called timeout after Lewis took a 21-20 lead after a 3-1 run. Ohio State then got a kill and an ace from Cole Young to reclaim the lead at 22-21. Lewis then called timeout before Young added another ace. A Pasteur kill, which tied him for the No. 17 spot at Ohio State in career kills with 948, led to another Lewis timeout with the Buckeyes leading 24-22. The Flyers scored the next point but Ohio State sealed the win, 25-23, after a Lewis error. The Buckeyes hit .260 in the opener while Lewis hit .160. Pasteur, Wetzel and Stevens each had four kills.
Set 2
The Flyers quickly took a 4-1 lead. The Buckeyes then went on a 4-1 run to make it 6-5 Flyers. A Pasteur kill, which moved him into sole possession of the No. 17 spot in career kills at Ohio State, tied the set at 8-all. An Ohio State service error followed by a Flyer ace put Lewis back in control, 11-9. A 6-1 Ohio State run put the Buckeyes on top 15-13. Lewis tied the set at 17-all before a Wetzel kill and Flyer error put Ohio State back on top. Lewis called timeout after another Pasteur kill made it 20-17 Buckeyes. The Flyers then tied it at 20-all. A Pasteur kill put OSU up 24-23 but the Flyers sent the set to overtime with a kill to tie it at 24-all. Tied at 26, Ohio State called timeout and went to Pasteur for the go-ahead kill. Lewis then committed an error to give OSU the win, 28-26. Ohio State outhit the Flyers .536 to .313 in the win. Pasteur lead the way with 10 kills after two. Wetzel was close behind with nine.
Set 3
The Buckeyes started strong with a 4-1 lead. A 4-1 run by the Flyers tied the set at 7-all. Lewis took a 9-8 lead before Ohio State scored the next four to regain the advantage to regain control at 12-9. The Flyers called timeout and made it 14-13 Ohio State. Lewis tied the set at 17-all after a 5-1 run. The Buckeyes then scored the next three points before building a 22-18 lead. Lewis called another timeout but the Buckeyes were able to finished off the Flyers, 25-19, to win the match, 3-0.

The Buckeyes remain on the road for the final time in regular-season MIVA competition Saturday at McKendree (6 p.m.) before returning home for the final home matches of the season against Purdue Fort Wayne April 6 and No. 10 Loyola Chicago April 8.
